About Dixons Allerton Academy
At Dixons Allerton, we ensure that teachers can prioritise teaching above everything else. By keeping this main focus, our staff are able to refine, develop and reflect on their practice in the classroom within a truly supportive environment. Considerable time to plan allows staff and scholars to fulfill their potential. Our values driven culture, which permeates all aspects of our Academy, genuinely enables teachers to teach and scholars to learn.
At Dixons Allerton Academy (DAA), we build a partnership between parents, scholars, and teachers that puts learning first. We support our scholars to be successful in their own learning through our values driven culture, backed up by our keys to success.
Our teachers model our values in all that they do. They are passionate about teaching and learning and strive to make incremental improvements to their practice through coaching. Their expertise allows them to 'read' their classrooms and to be more responsive to learners.
We firmly believe that effective assessment is the bridge between teaching and learning. Therefore, every lesson at DAA will show evidence of the following core features:
1. Personalised learning activities
2. Effective formative assessment
3. Clear development and structure of learning
THESE ARE COMPULSORY FEATURES OF ALL OUR LESSONS.
Several other key elements of the academy approach include:
In our classrooms and in our schemes of work and lessons plans, we value knowledge, skills and understanding.
Our Top 3 literacy strategies are: reading book in possession at all times (reading); speak in full sentences and no slang (speaking); track the speaker/s (listening).
Instead of excusing bad learning habits we insist on good learner values and culture day-in-and-day-out with high expectations and no excuses.
Our curriculum is broad in design, yet tailored for specific personalised learning. This will result in nearly every student succeeding in achieving at least five good GCSE's at grades 5+ A*-C (including English and Mathematics), and the majority achieving the English Baccalaureate (5 A*-C in English, Mathematics, Science, one language and History / Geography).
