About Elizabeth College

Founded in 1563 by Queen Elizabeth I, Elizabeth College is a partly coeducational independent day school located in Guernsey in the Channel Islands. The school has approximately 850 pupils aged 2-18 and is coeducational up to age 11. Between the ages of 11 and 16 the Upper School is boys only and offers a wide variety of subjects with most pupils taking between nine and eleven GCSEs. The Sixth Form curriculum is delivered in partnership with The Ladies’ College, which is located close by, and enables the provision of a wide range of A Level courses in a coeducational environment.

The Upper School is situated in the main town of St Peter Port with Elizabeth College Junior School located approximately half a mile away. The Junior School is separated into pre-school, pre-preparatory and preparatory sections. In recent years, all areas of the school have enjoyed significant investment in and upgrading of facilities resulting in the provision of a range of modern teaching areas as well as extensive playing fields, a performing arts studio and other dedicated music and drama areas, plus outstanding dining facilities. The College prides itself in offering a wide range of extra-curricular sports opportunities and other activities, including the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme and a well-regarded Combined Cadet Force.

Teaching Information

Whilst there is a preference for staff to have Qualified Teacher Status, graduates may be employed who do not hold an accredited teaching qualification. Such staff would be expected to register for a training programme to attain QTS and would be supported by the College in gaining this qualification.
