About Franklin College
Franklin College is a thriving, successful sixth form college serving North East Lincolnshire and the surrounding rural and coastal area, with around 1,600 full-time 16-18 and 700 part-time adult students. We are an inclusive college with an excellent local reputation, and a firm belief in the value of effective partnerships that support student progress and success. The College has a strong focus on teaching, learning and assessment and is a vibrant and exciting place to work and study. Franklin offers a very broad range of A Levels and Level 3 BTEC qualifications and each student will have an individual study programme encompassing their subjects, tutorial, enrichment and support. We also offer Level 2 for those young people who have not yet achieved 5 A*-C including English Language.
In 2015 Franklin celebrated its 25 anniversary with a range of events throughout the year. Franklin has a long tradition of student’s achieving excellent results and leaving college prepared to take their next step towards their desired future. Students at the College move successfully onto prestigious universities, apprenticeships and work. Several college alumni have come back to work at Franklin either as tutors or support staff with many more supporting students through our career academy programme, working lunches and careers events.
Franklin recognises its place within the community and works with local and national companies, clubs, societies and charities to provide opportunities for our students. At Franklin College we understand that a great college experience is not just about academic studies but all aspects of the time spent with us. As a result we place considerable value on our broad and engaging enrichment activities. Enrichment activities at Franklin are not only great fun but our students build confidence and skills valued by both employers and universities ensuring Franklin students access to great opportunities. Many of the enrichment groups compete both locally and nationally. This year the Maths Challenge Team reached the national final in London and Franklin’s debating team has competed in two regional competitions and several members have taken part in a Model UN Conference in Birmingham. Franklin students take part in a variety of sporting activities and individual students also represent the College in their own specialism including golf, athletics and horse riding. Franklin started a mountaineering club which saw the first trip to the Peak District for training with the Woodhead Mountain Rescue Team.
Franklin is the only college in the area to be part of the Career Ready programme offering five career academies (Business, Law, Health, Logistics and Science & Engineering). Students are assigned a mentor who they meet on a 1-1 basis, complete an internship, access visits, both locally and nationally to experience real life work environments and have guest speakers to talk about their industry.
Franklin is proud to be a college which supports Equality, Diversity and Inclusion among students and staff in order to achieve their full potential in a supportive and inclusive environment. The college has attained Investors in Diversity.
Franklin College’s local education context is complex and diverse. All secondary schools are now self-governing Academies (both 11-16 and 11-18) and there is a large general FE college with a growing HE provision. A further aspect of diversity lies in the proximity of selective grammar schools and other secondary provision in the neighbouring county of Lincolnshire.
Franklin is a member of the national organisation SFCA (Sixth Form Colleges Association) and the AoC (Association of Colleges). Regionally the College works with Norvic (Northern Sixth Form Colleges Federation) for the purposes of development and mutual support. The College has particularly close relationships with the Universities of Hull and Lincoln and is an Associate college of both.

Franklin College is a great place to be a student. The facilities that Franklin has available to students are brilliant. I really like working in the learning centre which has all the resources you could need and is an inspiring environment to do you coursework and homework. Franklin tutors really know their subjects, are supportive and available outside of classes when you need a little extra help. Franklin has a culture of students helping each other with student mentors in many departments, these students have a great understanding of the subject and have already completed their first year at the college. To have this extra help in an informal setting is great.- Kieran Lamb - Student
I came to Franklin College in 1998 to take my A Levels and enjoyed my experiences so much that I applied for a job after finishing university. I have now worked at Franklin for over 11 year's and hope that I will be able to continue to develop my career here. Each year Franklin admits a wonderful cohort of young people with exciting aspirations of what they would like to achieve in the future. It is a pleasure to work in an inspiring and exciting environment. Franklin's staff are among some of the most dedicated and highly skilled I have worked with and are always available to support our young people and each other. I have always felt valued at Franklin, part of a team and able to continually improve my skills and develop professionally. I can recommend working at Franklin wholeheartedly.- Andrew Howden - Staff member
