The Phoenix Federation

Deptford is one of the most culturally diverse places in London. Our children, their parents and grandparents bring with them a world of experiences, beliefs, and traditions. Many of our communities are disadvantaged by material poverty. We have, intellect, aspiration, and imagination.

In the Phoenix Federation we have committed ourselves to teaching our children in a way which acknowledges the colonialism and racism inherent in British history. We aim to arm our children with the confidence and competence to overcome the barriers before them and to build a better world for us all.

We have two primary schools in Deptford brought together in a Federation named after the inspiration local activist and community worker Sybil Phoenix. We recognise the unique contribution that migration made and continues to make to Deptford and our community. Our staff are understanding and accepting of who we are and are committed to making sure that we succeed and thrive in every aspect of our lives.
