About Guilsborough Academy
Welcome to Guilsborough Academy
At Guilsborough we believe that learning should be enjoyable and challenging. This belief, combined with the excellent teaching skills and commitment of our staff and the enthusiasm and hard work of our students, lies at the heart of our success.
We are passionately committed to the achievement of every individual student and to providing high standards of teaching and learning. Our reputation with the local and wider community rests on consistently providing quality education for students of all abilities. Our students' excellent academic achievements can be seen in the national league tables. We are proud of the examination results we achieve, which demonstrate that we are a consistently high achieving school. In 2017-18, 85% of our students achieved GCSE grades 9-4 in English and 81% Maths. At A Level 43% of grades achieved were A*-B and 96% A*-E. Every year our most able students achieve very highly and we encourage and support students to aim for top universities; whilst also providing strong support for alternative routes to higher qualifications post 18. We also hold the prestigious 'Career Mark' Gold Award.
We nurture individual strengths within our students and encourage them to explore a wide variety of interests within and beyond the school curriculum. Our aim is to develop thoughtful, kind and considerate adults, who will not only contribute to the school but also to the wider community. Students' personal development and happiness are very important to us and our extensive programme of extra-curricular activities, including excellent Music, Drama and Sports provision, supports this process. We have a series of projects and educational visits which have led us to be accredited as an International School. We expect high standards of behaviour and seek to build strong relationships between staff and students. Considerate and responsible attitudes and behaviour are fostered through a strong personal and social education programme and all students take part in community projects. We have introduced a Young Leaders Programme for all Year 7, 8 and 9 students.
We hold the prestigious ICT Mark Award. A key factor in this is our programme to enable all students to use their portable ICT device in school. We support this access for students who qualify for free school meals.
We work hard to enhance the links to our feeder schools in order to ensure the progression to secondary school is successful and happy for both students and parents/carers through a series of planned events and an extensive transition programme. Guilsborough is a "converter" Academy and has formed a Multi Academy Trust with our partner primary school, Naseby Church of England Academy.
We are very proud of everyone in our school community and their achievements and would like you invite all prospective parents and students to visit us on our Open Evening on 18th October or attend Musical and Dramatic performances; our whole school production runs from 6th - 8th February 2019 and our Christmas Concert in December or take a look at our termly newsletters on the website. This is the best way to experience the ethos and family atmosphere of the school.
We look forward to welcoming our new students in September.
