About Hasmonean High School

Hasmonean High School is a centre of educational excellence serving the Orthodox Jewish Community of North-West London. Boys and girls are taught separately on two campuses. Our school combines the secular with the religious within a framework of Torah Im Derech Eretz (respect for others, both within the school community and in the wider world).  Academic rigour is combined with in-depth Torah study, incorporating values such as chesed (caring/ kindness) and tzedokah (supporting charities).

Hasmonean is one of the best performing comprehensive schools in the country: our students attain consistently high standards in their GCSE, A/S and A Level examinations.  The vast majority of our graduates go on to study in world-class yeshivas and seminaries, before pursuing university education and a wide variety of careers. The highest expectations are shared by students, staff and parents.

Alongside our commitment to education is a determination that every Hasmonean student understands their place in their own community and wider British society.  Teaching them to embrace their place in the world around them is achieved through various aspects of our curriculum and a broader social, moral, spiritual and cultural (SMSC) educational programme.

It is also reflected in our school ethos of Torah im Derech Eretz and students have the opportunity to learn how to integrate with others from different backgrounds and  respect British Values and the different cultures that make up our society.  We expect our students to play a meaningful role in society and provide many opportunities during their school life for them to do so.

Underpinning this is a clear expectation, modelled by our staff, that everyone, regardless of their background should be treated with dignity, courtesy, kindness and respect.

We have a first-class staff dedicated to making our school a happy and purposeful school for students. Each student is valued, along with his or her parents or carers.  We aim to maximise each student’s potential within a caring, disciplined and ordered environment, and, in return, expect all students to respect and support the values on which our community is based.

What people say about us

“The school is one of the best schools in the country at outperforming expectations for their pupils and improving their future prospects. There is plenty that other schools could learn from Hasmonean High School’s success.”

- Sue Williamson, Chief Executive of SSAT (The Schools’ Network)

I like working at Hasmonean because of the community feel that exists here. This community feel is largely based on the students and families having similar beliefs and expectations; not to mention the number of parents who have passed through the hallowed Hasmonean hallways.

- Mr S McWilliams (Year Leader)

My colleagues have been friendly and welcoming and the students are amongst the best students I have come across; committed, dedicated, and willing to go the extra mile for success.

- Mr A Kalley (Head of Sixth Form)

There is an amazing balance between Jewish studies and secular studies. Both are interesting and exciting to learn about.

- Daniella Donoff (Student)

At Hasmonean, I have been given the confidence and selfbelief to achieve my goals and aspirations.

- Rafael Lebof (student)

I made many new friends really quickly, which made the jump from primary to secondary school much less scary.

- Tali Douek (Student)
