About John Paul College

St John Paul II College is a co-educational, independent Catholic secondary school located in Nicholls, ACT, just outside Canberra, for children ages 13-18.

The day school, which opened in 2013, looked after Years 7-10, but in 2017 it expanded to begin offering a Year 11 and 12 program. The school embraces teachers who welcome diversity, are innovative and have a commitment to sustainability, health, and wellbeing, and are looking to work in a modern, state-of-the-art campus.

Principal

Catherine Rey

Facilities

The school’s facilities includes large, modern classrooms, an award-winning performing arts centre and theatre, and well-appointed spaces for both visual arts and design and technology, set on the manicured campus grounds.

Curriculum

Students benefit from a varied curriculum in religious education, humanities, mathematics and science, French or Chinese, and one elective per term. Special supports are available for Indigenous students, and those from military families.

Electives are offered in sport and the arts, and the school has a focus on sustainability, with a communal garden and a canteen offering only fresh and locally sourced foods. There is also a focus on Indigenous culture, with students and staff partaking in cultural activities.

All students are also assigned into one of six houses, and are spread across year levels. Houses help with friendship, mentoring, and offer students leadership roles.

School ethos

Preparing students to find their path in the world, this school is grounded in Catholic tradition, but offers modern and contemporary learning subjects in a state-of-the-art environment. With a motor of “Justice, Courage, and Peace”, the school aims to follow in the footsteps of their Patron, St John Paul II.
