About Kelmscott School
Kelmscott School is a mainstream, non-denominational, community secondary school for girls and boys aged 11-16. It is situated in Walthamstow, East London.
Values and vision
Kelmscott School’s motto is "putting learning first". It works to ensure the best possible opportunities for pupils of all abilities and backgrounds, to help them reach their full potential. The school is particularly proud of its peer-mentoring scheme, which allows Year 10 students to support and advise Year 7 pupils on work and social situations. The school council allows pupils to have a say in decisions made at the school.
The ultimate vision of Kelmscott School is to equip its pupils with the skills, knowledge and understanding to become valued citizens in adult society.
The secondary school’s aims are: to ensure all pupils reach their full potential via a personalised curriculum; to offer a safe and stimulating environment in which to learn; to help pupils and staff set themselves the highest expectations; to support parents to participate in their children’s education; and to make sure pupils consistently receive the highest quality teaching.
“This is a good school. The headteacher has a very good understanding of the school and its wider community. This has enabled her to create a highly supportive environment with a focus on ‘putting learning first’. Pupils leave the school with levels of progress that are high across a broad range of subjects. Improving literacy was a key objective for the school following the last inspection, and work in this area had had a significant impact on increasing reading ages and fostering a strong reading culture. Pupils respect each other’s differences and are supportive of those who are less confident. They feel safe and value being part of the school community.”
