About Kumon Europe & Africa Limited

Kumon is the UK’s largest supplementary education provider, offering individualised maths and English programmes to help any child of any ability to progress and reach their potential. Our aim is for every child to become an independent, advanced learner with a positive attitude to study. The Kumon Method of Learning enables children to self-learn with Instructor guidance, helping students to take charge of their own learning journey and develop the confidence to strive for their goals and aspirations.

The Kumon Institute of Education was founded in 1958 in Japan, by Toru Kumon, both a parent and gifted maths teacher. He created what is now the Kumon Maths Programme for his son Takeshi, to help him improve his ability in maths. Our programmes now develop English skills, as well as maths, and are constantly evolving, learning from students and Instructors, to make them as effective as possible. Kumon still stands firm to Toru Kumon’s founding principle; to help as many children as possible excel academically and realise their potential. We can help give your child the tools for a lifelong love of learning.

What people say about us

I was a secondary school maths and accounting teacher in Ireland for eight years. I’ve always wanted to be my own boss. Being a Kumon Instructor provides a healthy work-life balance which means that I now have a greater level of flexibility for ‘family time’. Running my own franchise business enables me to take ownership, with the secure support of a globally recognised brand.

- Yvonne O'Rourke, Instructor since 201

The most rewarding thing about being a Kumon Instructor is seeing the students develop and grow in confidence. When you get to class and a student is buzzing because they have mastered something, they previously found challenging, it makes all the hard work worthwhile.

- Helen Goodbody, Instructor since 2008

I was a maths teacher with 17 years’ experience - and here was something that was making a real impact on children’s understanding and enjoyment of maths and English. It is wonderful to see students blossom and flourish in their studies and it gives me the greatest pleasure to develop students’ love of learning

- Lola Ottun, Instructor since 2006

I enjoy being a Kumon Instructor as I make a difference to my students’ education; developing their skills, enhancing them and allowing them to work at their own level and at their own pace. It’s a great feeling when a child realises they can complete work they once thought was beyond their reach.

- Shakeel Adam, Instructor since 2013

Upon the birth of my youngest son, I made the decision to find a new career that would allow me more time with my children, whilst still providing me with work satisfaction. I very quickly decided that I wanted to be my own boss and own my own Kumon centre. I’d worked as a Kumon class assistant as a teenager and I’d loved supporting the children and witnessing the benefits of the programmes. I could also see that the business model would allow me to manage my own time and set my own goals.

- Elizabeth Forrester, Instructor since 2020
