About Meridian High School

Based in New Addington, Croydon, Meridian High School first opened under its current name in 2015. It was previously known as Addington High School and has around 1,200 pupils. The secondary school and sixth form was named for the prime meridian line, which passes through the school grounds.

Meridian High School is a member of the GLF academy trust, which is responsible for the running of a large number of schools in south-east England. In the past, the school has worked closely with the organisation Amazing People Worldwide.

Values and vision

Meridian High School does a great deal to ensure that pupils have a strong sense of family and take pride in their school. Teachers seek to ensure that pupils develop both inside and outside the classroom, with extensive extra-curricular activities on offer. The intention is that pupils leave the school with the emotional and social intelligence to succeed in the real world, as well as strong academic qualifications.

Ofsted report

“The school’s work to develop students’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development and respect for difference and diversity is very strong. One student described how in school, ‘people can be themselves’… The achievement of disabled students and those with special educational needs is good. This is because of good leadership which ensures effective targeted support.”
