About Montessori East Pre-School and Primary School
Montessori East Primary and Pre School is an independent, co-educational school educating 3-12 year olds. Situated in Bondi, an eastern suburb of Sydney, New South Wales, the school provides education in multi-age classrooms of 3 to 6 year olds, 6 to 9 years and 9 to 12 years.
Montessori East was established in 1978 and is the only Montessori educational facility in Sydney’s Eastern suburbs. It began as a pre-school and has been on its present site since 2001. It is one of over 150 Montessori schools in Australia that follow a student-centered and teacher-facilitated education model.
Montessori East provides a “prepared environment” and has large, well-equipped classrooms for its students. It also has a dedicated library space, full kitchen facilities and an art room. Outdoor areas are available to preschool and primary school students, with each class having its own vegetable garden.
Montessori East follows the Montessori National Curriculum which is linked to all outcomes from the NSW Board of Studies Syllabus. The core curriculum is offered through individualised learning programmes. Students also experience a variety of other activities such as swimming, surfing, playball, dance, drama, yoga, camping experiences, and foreign language.
Montessori East’s child-centred learning environment supports students’ in becoming in control of their learning. The school aims to encourage academic growth, self-confidence and independent thinking and learning. The Montessori approach promotes respect for self and others, awareness and consideration for the needs of fellow human beings, developing the child intellectually, emotionally and spiritually.
