About Montsaye Academy
Montsaye Academy is a vibrant and active school community where learning and achievement, in their widest sense, are viewed as the core purpose of our work. It is also a caring and supportive environment in which children can become adults, unafraid to make mistakes, flexible enough to overcome obstacles and ambitious enough to be extraordinary not average.
The academy is a member of the Montsaye Community Learning Partnership with seven primaries from who we draw the majority of our cohort each year. We have other very effective partnerships with local secondary schools that also enhance our curriculum and support our practice.
We are a research engaged school and our teaching and learning strategies are driven by the evidence for what works. Our aim is to re-intellectualise teaching and to give all our teachers the opportunity to engage in research and development to improve their teaching practice. We have a very well developed CPD programme that gives teachers the opportunity to gain the following accredited qualifications:
• MA in Education
• National Professional Qualification for Middle Leaders
• National Professional Qualification for Senior Leaders
• We are also supporting teachers to complete PhDs in Education
As part of our focus on research-led teaching and learning we publish a research journal, The Montsaye Approach, which is available in print or on-line form and is lodged in the national depository of the British Library.
Professor Dylan Wiliam’s statement that “Every teacher needs to improve, not because they are not good enough, but because they can be even better” is what drives our commitment to Professional Development. We will support your drive to improve your practice as a teacher.
At Montsaye we offer a broad, balanced curriculum, enhanced by our extracurricular provision, through which we aim to support students to develop a keen interest in learning, enhancing their basic skills of communication and literacy as well as exploring particular strengths and interests. Our staff demonstrate every day their commitment to supporting young people as they explore the world around them and have an unswerving belief in the ability of our students.
Education in Partnership, the academy’s motto, means working closely with parents and carers to support students to make outstanding progress. It also means encouraging students to work together to support one another. Our vertical tutoring system, with students in mixed age forms, allows us to develop this caring, supportive ethos and respect for oneself and for each other is a key priority of our behaviour for learning policies.
We provide an engaging curriculum, constantly develop our teaching workforce and create an atmosphere of mutual respect so that we are able to meet the individual needs of children. Our commitment is to making sure that students leaving Montsaye will be resilient, proactive, independent learners able to face the challenges of the adult world and to lead where others follow.
