About Old Vicarage School

The Old Vicarage School is a mixed, non-denominational, independent nursery and preparatory school situated in Derby, Derbyshire. The school has approximately 130 pupils, ranging from 3 to 11 years old. 

The school was founded in 1933 in a Victorian former vicarage. In 2007, the current proprietors, Matthew & Jenny Adshead, bought the school and run it as a family business.

Vision and values    

The Old Vicarage School wishes for children to discover their potential and achieve to the best of their ability in all areas – academically, socially, physically, morally and spiritually. It aims for pupils to grow into happy, friendly, self-confident individuals, who can be proud of their achievements and celebrate the success of others. 

The Old Vicarage School wants all pupils to become positive citizens and active members of the Derbyshire community and beyond. Teachers encourage leadership and engagement through the active school council, run by pupils from each year group.

“Pupils of all ages listen with interest in lessons and are never reluctant to express their views when asked. They are able to make logical deductions and think for themselves, as they use information and communication technology (ICT) such as tablets and touch screens with confidence. Pupils are consistently very successful in gaining places at their first choice of senior school, with significant numbers being awarded scholarships”.
