Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) School provides primary education to the expatriate children of PDO and Shell employees, from 3 to 11 years of age. The school has expanded recently with over 550 children currently on roll from over 40 different nationalities, speaking more than 35 languages.
In October 2015, PDO School transferred to a new “state of the art school building” in October 2015, the first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) School in Oman. Designed with 30 classrooms and spacious break out learning areas, a multi sports hall, swimming pool, creative arts and technology rooms, and a purpose built kindergarten, all supported with the latest digital learning technology; the new school has the capacity for up to 650 children and is situated in a prime position in the heart of the PDO /Ras Al Hamra residential area, on the Muscat coastline.
PDO School has a dedicated team of over 100 staff and our ratio of adults to children secures smaller class sizes and ensures each child has access to support and focused teaching, whilst continuously developing the skills and confidence required for independent learning. We implement the English National Curriculum for Literacy and Mathematics, alongside the International Primary Curriculum. For more information visit www.greatlearning.com/ipc
Every child has access to specialist learning in Music, Physical Education and Computing. A skilled team of EAL teachers ensures all children are supported in developing fluency in English, whilst continuing to develop their home language. There is a very good NTC programme for the Dutch community, and we also work in partnership with our parents to provide an after school Mother Tongue Programme, teaching languages such as Arabic, Russian and Urdu.
The school vision is for the children to leave our care as independent, self motivated learners, who are confident and can think both critically and creatively. We also aim for our learners to be able to communicate effectively, be internationally minded, and have a passion for lifelong learning.
Oman is a safe and tolerant Muslim country, with natural beauty and excellent social and recreational opportunities; it is a wonderful place for families to live.
