About Penwortham Girls' High School

Penwortham Girls’ High School is a maintained, 11-16, comprehensive school that has served Penwortham and surrounding areas since 1954.

As a comprehensive school we cater for the full ability range and are proud of our continued success in ensuring achievement for all our pupils. We believe our school is a thinking, caring school and a good place to grow up in!

We aim to develop young women confident in their ability to learn, and able to adapt that learning to new situations.

We are a girls’ school and believe that this is a bonus in the adolescent years. We aim to challenge our pupils academically, socially and morally by encouraging achievement, equality and respect for others. We believe we offer a rich environment for learning where curiosity, confidence and willingness to take on new ideas are developed.

“The proportion of students achieving A* to A grades in the GCSE examinations in 2006…..is twice the national average. These good results are the consequence of effective teaching and of the students’ strong commitment to learning and their desire to achieve.”
