About Q3 Academy Langley
A Welcome Message from our Head of School and Chief Executive
I am incredibly honoured to have been appointed the first Head of School at Q3 Academy Langley. Along with my dedicated and committed team of staff – at every level of the organisation - we ensure that all students feel safe and excited as they embark on their secondary education with us. Our tailored, focused and rigorous transitionary curriculum ensures that all students achieve their potential and feel at home at secondary school straight away. We have exceptional teachers and have grown as a team since we first embarked on our journey together, opening in September 2016. Our innovative timetable, including the bespoke Horizon, Innov8 and Cloud 9 curriculum, Family Lunch and Breakfast, Company system, Heads of Year and our Thursday afternoon Enrichment offers unique opportunities for young people, in an area of socio-economic disadvantage; this sets us apart from other schools, both locally and nationally.
In May 2019, we received glowing feedback from our first Ofsted inspection. As well as highlighting our outstanding behaviour, pastoral and leadership systems, the lead inspector expressed that Q3 Academy Langley was ‘not a normal school.’ Our outward-facing approach has led us to be at the forefront of educational innovation – our focus on being ‘warm but strict’, and putting knowledge at the heart of our curriculum has led Schools Week to dub us ‘the Michaela of the Midlands’. Additionally, our attendance and persistent absence figures have been amongst the very best in the entire country – this is particularly impressive when considering the socio-economic context of the Academy (IDACI ‘Deprived’) and the broad cultural mix of our cohort.
This means that I am extremely confident that staff, students, parents and carers who choose Q3 Academy Langley will feel they have made the right decision from the very start, and be excited to join the Q3 family on this journey together, as the Academy grows to full capacity in the coming years. Q3 Academy Langley was the first new school to be built in Sandwell in 10 years, welcoming its first 153 Year 7 students in September 2016. We now have close to 900 on roll, and are ready to welcome another 240 in September 2020; we will eventually accommodate more than 1,500 students. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with us if you have any questions or queries - we would encourage, and be delighted, to welcome you for an informal visit to our site.
Mr Peter Lee - Head of School
Q3 Academy Langley is one of three schools in the Q3 Academies Trust, providing the very best for every student by ensuring excellent academic standards and a personalised learning experience. We deliver high quality learning with an ethos based on building character and promoting well-being. This was recognised when we were one of the first schools in the country to receive the School of Character Award from the Jubilee Centre. The team is dedicated to developing the whole child and totally committed to ensuring that ‘no child is left behind’; this was confirmed in the ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted judgement for personal development, behaviour and welfare.
Our Head of School is passionate and committed to his students and staff. If you are successful in your application, you will join a hardworking, dedicated and enthusiastic team of staff who enjoy working at the Academy and have a wide range of opportunities for professional development. Staff morale is high and there is a conscious focus on promoting work/life balance. We hope you take the next step and consider joining the Q3 family.
Dr Caroline Badyal - Chief Executive
The letter ‘Q’ represents the Latin word ‘Quaerere’ – meaning ‘seek after’ or ‘search for.’ We see life as a journey, during which we look to improve our knowledge, our aspirations and develop our values. The name Q3 represents three high ideals, which we mean to follow in everything we do.
- To seek for that which is good
- To seek for that which is right
- To seek for that which is true
Our ethos obviously has an important role to play – it will be crucial in helping shape an understanding of appropriate behaviour, meaningful relationships and family values; it will be the cornerstone of a commitment to care, compassion and contribution. It’s our aim to encourage students to build firm foundations for their lives where respect, trust, determination responsibility, care and creativity will be valued as drivers for educational success.
