About Rookwood School

Rookwood School is a co-educational, all-through, independent day and boarding school based in Andover, Hampshire, for students aged 3-16. Rookwood was founded in 1934 as a girls’ school; boys were admitted to the preparatory school in 1950 and to the senior school in 2003.

The school has recently expanded its facilities to include a sports hall and additional classrooms. The boarding house consists of two adjoining properties, one for boys and one for girls, located a short walk from the main school site.

Values and vision

Rookwood School has a Christian ethos, which is reflected upon in its regular assemblies. Children of all faiths are actively welcomed. Students are taught that they should give respect to adults and expect to receive respect in return.

The school’s motto, "Sapere Aude", can be translated as "dare to know" or "have courage to understand". Teachers challenge pupils to have the courage to learn new things and to develop new skills.

Independent Schools Inspectorate report

“The school is successful in achieving its aims of setting high expectations and encouraging pupils to achieve their best both in and out of class… Throughout the school, pupils show good understanding and enjoy their learning, demonstrating excellent literacy and numeracy skills in the prep school. They participate with success in the performing arts and in a wide range of creative and sporting activities both locally and nationally… Their progress in the pre-prep and prep school is excellent. Pupils’ attitudes are positive and their behaviour is exemplary.”
