About Sawston Village College
Sawston Village College is a highly successful 11-16 community comprehensive school with Foundation Trust status. Opened in 1930, it was the first purpose-built community school in England and we are proud of the fact that it is still heralded as a model for community education, with over 1000 members of the local community visiting each week to participate in learning, sporting or leisure activities.
The quality of teaching and learning across the curriculum is very good: we have Artsmark Silver because of the very high quality of Music and Drama provision; our History Department is regularly commended by the University of Cambridge for the excellence of its teaching and its exemplary training of Initial Teacher Trainees. We have achieved some excellent results in Modern Foreign Languages in recent years with several pupils achieving marks at GCSE which placed them in the top five nationally.
Originally a Technology College, our specialism changed to Science in 2008 and, as we were deemed to be a high-performing specialist school, a second specialism of Languages was awarded. The specialist departments have done a great deal to contribute to the forward momentum of the school. We aim for excellence in everything we do.
This is an exciting time in the life of the College. Our most recent Ofsted report (November 2008) deemed it to be “a very effective school that provides a good quality of education and outstanding care for its pupils”. We believe our school has the capacity to be outstanding and are seeking a Principal with the energy, dynamism and positivity to continue to move the school forward towards this goal.
You will work with our dynamic young people, forward thinking staff and a supportive Governing Body, committed to Trust status.
