About St Joseph's Primary School

St Joseph’s Primary School is a co-educational Catholic day school, located in Dungog, NSW. This small school looks after around 80 students in Kindergarten through Year 6 and has eight teaching staff.

The school was founded in 1888 by the Sisters of St Joseph and has continued to grow, with a new school building added on in 2006, providing students and staff with new classrooms and modern facilities. The school is proud of their long and rich history of providing Catholic-based education to the local community.

Facilities

The school opened five new classrooms in 2007, each with computers and interactive whiteboards. Rooms are also centrally heated and air-conditioned. The school’s library is also large and modern, with computers for student use. The school also offers outdoor shaded play and sporting areas.

The school has a focus on sustainability, with a large rainwater tank for irrigation and both a vegetable and compost garden, with students helping to grow their own produce.

Curriculum

The school’s curriculum is based on the NSW Board of Studies Key Learning Areas. These include English, mathematics, science and technology, human society and its environment, creative arts, and personal development and health. All students also receive religious education.

Students also enjoy participating in sports, drama, choir, and band.

School ethos

The school’s motto is ‘God is Love’, and they aim to create a school centred on the teachings of the values of Christ. They celebrate the Catholic traditions and help students to achieve their full potential academically, socially, spiritually, and physically.
