About St Margaret's Prep School
St Margaret's Prep is an independent day school for boys and girls aged 3-11 which was established in 1873. We moved to our current premises in 1940 and have gradually grown to what we are today – a happy and vibrant school of 200 pupils with broadly equal numbers of boys and girls.
The school has been extended over the years to provide light and airy, purpose-built facilities including a Kindergarten for our 3-4 year olds, thirteen well-equipped classrooms, exciting outdoor learning areas including an outdoor classroom and wildlife garden, a languages room for our children to learn both modern and classical languages, music rooms and a soundproof studio, an art and design room, a high tech computer suite equipped with iMacs, a beautiful library, a school hall for assemblies, drama productions and music events and ‘Maggots’ after-school club; all facilitating opportunities for exploration of every kind!
We share a 25 acre site with St Mary's, Calne and consequently our children are fortunate enough to benefit from a wide range of facilities not always available to prep school pupils. These include a 25m indoor swimming pool, an all-weather surface Astroturf offering facilities for hockey, tennis, football and lacrosse, on-site and off-site sports pitches, Science laboratories, a purpose-built chapel used for Services, concerts and a range of celebrations, a dining hall with full-time catering staff, a theatre and a fully-staffed medical centre.
St Margaret's provides a happy and purposeful environment for all children to explore within a friendly, caring community. We want our children to be more than the sum of his or her academic achievement, which is why we place just as much value on building self-confidence and self-esteem, on encouraging self-assessment and personal organisation. Our main aim is for our pupils to be inspired, not be afraid to take risks and above all, have fun and enjoy learning.
