St. Paul’s, The British School, was founded in 1926 and was the first British school in São Paulo. Fully coeducational, with some 1,100 pupils, aged from 3 to 18, it is a school with history and tradition, but which embraces innovation, contemporary values and technological developments.
We offer a British curriculum, including the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) and courses up to IGCSE and the International Baccalaureate Diploma. At IB the following subjects are taught in the Sixth Form (and offered as standard and higher levels): English, Portuguese, Spanish, French, mathematics, mathematical studies, physics, chemistry, biology, computer science, geography, history, economics, business management, theatre, visual arts, music and film studies. St. Paul’s encourages and demands academic rigour, as well as a high level of pastoral care. It provides a wide range of curricular and enrichment opportunities and nurtures a strong sense of community and school spirit, so that all those within the school feel secure, confident and able to develop their interests and enthusiasms in a fulfilling way.
We prepare our pupils within a bilingual and bicultural Anglo-Brazilian community for a global future. We offer a broad and balanced but rigorous curriculum where the individual pupil is at the heart of the teaching and learning. It is our aim to discover the passion and talents of every pupil, and create the right environment to develop these. Pupils leave us confident, assured and well prepared for an exciting life, and a multitude of opportunities. We are a world-class school; a member of HMC and COBIS and the first officially UK government accredited British School Overseas in South America. We are proud of our local, national and international reputation and we constantly strive to improve the opportunities for our pupils and staff.
We are very proud of our strong heritage, traditions and values but are constantly looking forward; seeking to innovate and improve at every age and stage for every one of our pupils. Excellent teaching and learning and the very best pastoral care and co-curricular provision lies at the very heart of the school. With our bicultural and bilingual Anglo-Brazilian curriculum, we embrace both cultures and languages and have a strong set of shared values that shape and nurture the experience that our pupils enjoy. We are a family school supporting our pupils in finding their way on their exciting learning journey and brilliantly supported by dedicated teachers, staff and the wider school community of parents and Old Pauleans.
The school has undertaken an almost continuous programme of building works over the past 20 years as it has gradually grown; this includes extensive refurbishment and extension of the original school building, the creation of a sixth form centre and library and, most recently, a multimillion dollar underground state of the art sports centre. We are currently building a new academic centre, music and art school, science facilities and learning resources space, to be opened very soon.
The school is highly regarded for its strong values, which form the base of the community and the qualities and characteristics that we aim to engender in all members of the school; they underpin and form the base for the community of the school. We expect all staff and pupils to:
