Swiss International School of Qatar
About Swiss International School of Qatar
The Swiss International School of Qatar opened its doors to 300 students from PK to G8 in September 2017 and has expanded rapidly to 550 students from PK to G10 in September 2018. In September 2019, we opened G11 and welcomed 710 students.
Some people wonder what makes our school “Swiss”. There are some important aspects of our identity that we draw from the Swiss culture and heritage. First of all, the International Baccalaureate was born in Geneva, out of a desire to serve the expatriate community and facilitate children’s transition between countries. As an IB World School offering the PYP, MYP and DP, SISQ is deeply rooted in the values of the IB: global citizenship, open-mindedness and the desire to create a better world. Secondly, we always strive to reflect some of the qualities that make Switzerland such a great country: multilingualism, internationalism, dialogue, tolerance and peace-making. Thirdly, although our first language of instruction is English, we grant a special place to the French language in our curriculum, with daily French lessons in the Primary Years, children grouped by level in all French classes - from complete beginners all the way up to fully native French speakers - and various activities in French. As an additional commitment to our Swiss identity, we are now offering German for fluent students from Grade 1 to Grade 10.
SISQ is also proud to be a truly international school, with 66 nationalities represented in our student body, and 25 nationalities amongst our 100 staff members. This diversity is constantly celebrated and children are learning to be global citizens with every single interaction. We also celebrate the local culture in every way we can, for example by inspiring ourselves from the Qatar National Vision 2030, and implementing a strong Arabic programme that has seen many of our children making incredible progress in the three languages they are exposed to in our school.
SISQ is an innovative, research-based school that is forward-looking and trying to prepare students for the challenges of tomorrow's world. Finally, SISQ is also a caring school, creating a culture where students feel safe to be who they are, free to take risks and try new things, and empowered to care for others and the world.
