About Tanglin Trust School

Mission: ‘Tanglin Trust School Singapore has a long tradition of providing British-based learning with an international perspective.  At Tanglin we strive to make every individual feel valued, happy and successful.  Responsibility, enthusiasm and participation are actively encouraged and integrity is prized.  Working together in a safe, caring yet stimulating environment, we set high expectations whilst offering strong support, resulting in a community of lifelong learners who can contribute with confidence to our world.'

Structure: Established in 1925, Tanglin Trust School is the oldest British international school in South East Asia. Tanglin is a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee and is registered as an educational charity.  Tanglin is a vibrant co-educational school of 2,800 students aged from 3 to 18 years, representing over 50 different nationalities.  The school is split into the Infant School (3-7 years); the Junior School (7-11 years), the Senior School (11-16 years), and the Sixth Form College (16-18 years).

Enhanced Curriculum: Tanglin provides the English National Curriculum with an international perspective.  Tanglin's links with Singapore and Asia are incresingly woven into subject areas and key topics across the school to ensure students achieve international mindedness that will allow them to contribute to the world with confidence.  Drawing on professional and dynamic staff, Tanglin aims to nurture every individual to achieve their intellectual, spiritual, cultural, social and physical goals.

Pathway Options: As students progress through the Key Stages of the English National Curriculum, they are presented with a widening choice of subjects that are taught by a dedicated team of subject specialists.  They are guided in making choices for GCSE and IGCSE courses with examinations normally taken at the end of Year 11.  Students then have the opportunity to select either the A Level or IB Diploma pathway in Years 12 and 13 with this choice being unique amongst Singapore schools. Students' examination results consistently surpass Singapore and global averages, with around 95% of graduates typically receiving their first or second choice university, which are among the best in the world.

Inspections: Tanglin is inspected every year within the British Schools Overseas (BSO) framework, recognised by Ofsted.  All three schools have been awarded ‘Outstanding’, the highest possible grade, in their latest inspections (2017, 2018 and 2019).

Breadth of Learning Experience: High levels of achievement are evident throughout the school and high-quality teaching places great emphasis on meeting the needs of each and every student.  In addition to its outstanding academic performance, Tanglin encourages both broad participation and the achievement of excellence in the arts, sport, outdoor education and co-curricular activities.

Community: Tanglin students are also encouraged to contribute actively to the local community, support social projects and participate in sustainable and long-term service commitments. A strong pastoral system nurtures positive relationships, promoting an ethos that values and celebrates students as individuals while fostering a strong sense of community.

Learner Profile: Underpinning life at Tanglin are a set of ten attributes, closely aligned with the IB’s Learner Profile, which the school strives to develop in its students; balanced, caring, risk-takers, knowledgeable, resilient inquirers, communicators, principled, open-minded, thinkers and reflective.

Tanglin Trust School is a professionally stimulating and rewarding workplace, committed to innovation, high-guality professional development and collaborative learning both within and beyond the school.

Ultimately, it is the quality of education at Tanglin that makes the difference.
