About Tewkesbury School

Since my arrival in 2012 I have had both the privilege and immense pleasure of leading Tewkesbury School and helping our young people excel across a broad range of disciplines.   Students are exposed to a wealth of opportunities both within and beyond the classroom in a school that places a strong emphasis on the development of well-rounded individuals of whom the school and parents can feel justifiably proud.  I am fortunate to be supported by a first-class team of staff, exceptionally strong governors and a highly supportive parent body who, quite rightly, expect only the very best for their children.

From the moment they arrive in Year 7, our students are expected to achieve in a happy, caring and supportive environment.  Regardless of their ability, students are set challenging and ambitious targets for their academic progress.  Our Pathways Curriculum introduced in 2013 is proving most successful and enables students of all abilities to be both supported and challenged.  Expectations are high in relation to attitudes, language, behaviour and uniform.

To the visitor, the warm, friendly and positive relationships between staff and students and within the student body itself are immediately apparent and an obvious characteristic of a happy school where young people learn in an environment where creative and engaging lessons delivered by a dedicated team of staff are the norm.

We pride ourselves in being a community school with strong and growing links with local businesses and community organisations which add tremendous value to the development of our young people.  Well-established links with local primary schools also allow students to gain first-hand experience of secondary school life from Year 5 onwards.  An extensive and highly regarded transition programme allows children to make a smooth and seamless move from junior school to secondary school.

Alongside the more mainstream school clubs, students have the chance to become involved in rowing, astronomy and the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme to name but a few.  Classroom learning is enhanced with local, national and international trips.  Recent visits have included trips to New York, Honduras, South Africa, Barcelona, Berlin and Paris.  In 2017 a group of students will be visiting Mexico whilst another will visit the Caribbean on the biennial Sports Tour.

Feel free to come and witness the outstanding achievements of our staff and students by making an appointment or by reading the most recent Ofsted Report from February 2016.

I would be delighted to meet you in person, to show you around the school and answer any queries you may have.

With very best wishes

Gary Watson
