About The Rochester Grammar School
Rochester Grammar school is the best performing school, best performing girls school and best performing Grammar School in Medway as per the 2018 Progress 8 outcomes of +0.88.
The Thinking Schools Academy Trust is the best performing Multi Academy Trust in England for KS4 progress.
We are very proud of our school and our mission which is encapsulated in three words: “transforming life chances.” As an individual school we nurture habits of excellence in all aspects of school life – academic, creative, sporting and in responsible behaviour. This is why RGS is a happy, caring and exceptionally successful school. We are educating our children for a world that is rapidly changing, a world that we expect will be very different by the time they have graduated from university compared with the time they join us in year 7.
In our last Ofsted report we were judged to be Outstanding in every category. We were accredited by Exeter University as an Advanced Thinking School and in November 2010 we converted to Academy Status. We are now a Multi-Academy Trust, the Thinking Schools Academy Trust (TSAT) with 13 schools across Medway and Portsmouth.
You will see that we are truly a 21st Century school, concerned not just with what our students learn, but with how they learn and how they grow in confidence, independence and critical thinking. Since our foundation in 1888, we have been committed to a pioneering curriculum, broadening opportunities for learners to access the most prestigious universities and the best careers. We continue to be at the leading edge of education. Our unique curriculum has accelerated opportunities to stretch and challenge, with two pathways being offered in the Sixth form: the IB Diploma and A Levels. We are an Advanced Thinking School accredited by Exeter University, driving our passion for learning.
The RGS is both a National Support School and a National Teaching School with the National College of Teaching and Leadership. This reflects our strengths and capacity to support other schools, train new and newly qualified teachers, deliver high quality professional training and development for all our staff and lead a thriving Teaching School Alliance of over 40 schools. This outstanding track record was also recognised by the DFE and we are now a registered sponsor for schools. Our cross phase Trust which was co-founded with All Faiths’ CC school is a successful and expanding Trust with more schools joining us in Medway and in Portsmouth.
As a member of the Thinking Schools Academy Trust, the school is at the forefront of pedagogic practice. It places cognitive approaches at the heart of its provision and anticipates being formally accredited as a Thinking School by the University of Exeter in the summer of 2016. Holcombe Grammar works closely with all of the Trust’s schools. All of our schools, both secondary and primary work cohesively together across key stages and departments to share best practice.
As part of The Thinking Schools Academy Trust, we benefit from working cohesively as a family of schools for the benefit of our children, and for the adults who work here too. The Trust supports with planning, trips, events, CPD and much more to ensure that all of our teachers are fully supported, enabling them to ensure that they can deliver the best learning that we can offer. Our mission is to “transform life chances”; at The Thinking Schools Academy Trust we believe education has the power to change lives and children only have one chance to get this right.
To ensure all our academies focus on our mission school leaders translated our mission to core values that would be demonstrated and evident in all our Academies:
Child First, Aspire, Challenge, Achieve
