About West Heath School

We are a Specialist Independent School catering for a diverse range of needs for boys and girls age 11-19, many of whom have emotional and social communication difficulties. Prior to coming to us, some of our students will have been excluded from mainstream education for a period of time. Here they find a strong therapeutic approach to learning and all students, when they arrive with us, spend time in HEART, our health, education, assessment and revitalising therapy unit, where we can fully establish the strengths and needs of each individual child.

Values and Vision

West Heath School has charitable status and is focused on rebuilding lives through education through therapeutic educational methods. It is a school that focuses not just on educating its pupils, but providing expert help to develop their physical and mental capabilities while establishing research into education of special needs children. Its mission statement is: “Support and empower our community to discover their strengths by taking responsibility for their lives, through respect for themselves and others.

It supports its students as a learning community through its core values of integrity and trust, respect, responsibility, optimism, commitment, independence and empowerment.

“Students make outstanding progress with their learning from mostly low starting points on entry to the school. They make rapid progress to fill in gaps in their previously unsettled educational experiences. The outstanding quality of teaching is planned to ensure that each student is working consistently at a level of challenge appropriate to their individual needs. The quality of the residential provision is outstanding.”
