Post: Deputy Head Teacher (Secondary) – Quality of Education

Location: Millbay Academy, 22 Millbay Road, Millbay, Plymouth PL1 3EG

FTE Salary Range: Leadership Scale L10-L16; £52,721 rising to a maximum of £61,164 per annum; (depending on qualifications and experience)

Contract Type: Permanent; full time, 52.14 weeks per year

Contract Hours: 32.5 hours per week; Monday to Friday


About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen due to the promotion of our current Deputy Headteacher (Secondary) to Executive Headteacher within our Trust, as such Reach South Academy Trust are seeking to appoint an exceptional person to join our SLT as Deputy Headteacher at Millbay Academy. We are looking for a person with vision, drive, energy, compassion and proven leadership skills to join our team and help to lead our rapidly improving Academy, to its ambition of being an Outstanding school.

We would encourage applications from experienced leaders; equally we would provide support for ambitious individuals moving up to senior leadership at Deputy Headteacher level.

We are particularly interested to hear from individuals who have a proven track record with regard to their own subject, in addition to driving whole school improvement with a focus on curriculum, teaching and learning, progress and standards. An expertise in developing and implementing data systems and timetabling would be welcomed.


About the School

Millbay Academy is an all through school for students from ages 3 to 16 years old. The Academy is situated in the Plymouth city centre in the regenerated heart of Millbay coastal quarter.  In 2020 the school joined Reach South Academy Trust and has since undergone a rebranding and multiple changes to the environment, culture and curriculum. The school has been on a rapid journey of improvement and is ready for the next stage of development which includes an additional £4 million build which will further develop our excellent Educational provision.

The Academy with the new build will have a capacity of 1,000 students.
