FTE Salary Range: NJC Grade D Pt 8-14, £20,852 - £23,484

Contract Type: Full time, permanent contract

Contract Hours: 37.5 hours per week; Monday to Friday

About the role

We are seeking a Site Assistant who will be responsible for ensuring that our facilities are maintained to a high standard, providing a pleasant environment in which students and staff can work and learn.  The Site Assistant will work closely with the Site Manager and will be a key-holder and must be willing to be called out should an emergency arise.  Millbay Academy is part of a federation with High Street Primary Academy, therefore, there will be a requirement to provide support at both schools from time to time.  

The role is primarily based at our High Street Primary Academy site and will work Monday to Friday 7.00am to 11.00am and 3.00pm to 6.30pm.

About the successful candidate

The successful candidate will have experience of carrying out general building and grounds repairs and maintenance tasks, with the capacity to prioritise a wide range of tasks. They will also need a clear understanding of both security issues and Health & Safety requirements in respect of all areas of school life.  

We are looking for some of the following qualities and experience: 

  • GCSE Mathematics and English – Grade C and above.  
  • Understanding of basic maintenance work and the safe use of associated tools and equipment 
  • Good Knowledge of Health and Safety at Work Act including COSHH and fire safety 
  • Have good verbal and written communication skills to exchange information with a range of audiences (e.g. staff, pupils and others). 
  • Have sound IT skills including proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products. 
  • Ability to undertake some driving in role - car, van, mini bus, but not essential to role 
  • Flexibility and team working are essential attributes.


About the School

High Street Primary is a small and rapidly improving academy, with a warm, caring and friendly ethos, with a PAN of 210 pupils plus a nursery.  The school recently formed a fed-eration with Millbay Academy.

Our vision is clear: every child matters, every day. We ensure our school allows every child to achieve their full potential - we work tirelessly and collaboratively as a High Street team to offer all children the opportunity to meet their aspirations beyond expectations.

High Street is a small community school with approximately 130 children on roll from age two to age eleven. We work with external agencies and all stakeholders to ensure we offer our community the support and commitment they deserve. We have a wonderful team of teaching and non-teaching staff and we pride ourselves on the caring relationships we have built between all of the members of our ‘school family’.

High Street Primary Academy is a small and rapidly improving academy. We were founded in 1894 and we have a great history. There is a strong family atmosphere in our school, and the children feel safe and cared for. We have recently adopted a new and exciting approach to the curriculum with creativity at its heart, and we are on the journey to achieve the Artsmark award.
