Location: Pilgrim Primary Academy, Oxford Street, Plymouth, PL1 5BQ

FTE Salary Range: NJC Grade D, Point 8 -14,  £20,852 - £23,484 per annum, pro-rata for part time contract

Contract Type: Permanent, part time

Contract Hours: 30 hours per week; Monday to Friday, 52.14 weeks per year


About the role

We are looking for a professional, experienced and flexible individual to manage our school site. You’ll be working in a network of highly skilled colleagues who all want the best in site safety and security for the school. You’ll be covering duties such as grounds maintenance, health and safety checks as defined by our compliance software, security of site and keyholder duties, and carrying out small remedial or decorating works, such as painting or fitting washers on taps.  

At Pilgrim Primary Academy you will be working with a large team of teaching and support staff and you will work closely with the Headteacher and other Senior Leaders who will provide direction and guidance as needed. You will lead a small team of premises cleaning staff, overseeing daily cleaning regimes to ensure the general good upkeep of the school premises. 

The role is to ensure that the pupils, staff and visitors have a safe and secure site; experience of working in a busy education environment would be an advantage but is not essential.


About the successful candidate

We are looking for people who have the following experience and qualities:  

  • Building relationships with a variety of stakeholders e.g. school staff, suppliers, contractors and the Trust central team  
  • Relevant experience of working in a similar role  
  • Have the ability to work independently and use own initiative when required  
  • Be able to display effective communication skills  
  • Be eager to work collaboratively in a wider team, be adaptable and open to new ideas and practices  
  • Be able to direct and lead a small team of premises cleaning staff  
  • Ability to manage stock and ordering of new supplies  
  • Ensure safe working practices and safeguarding practices are upheld  
  • Able to deal with change and unpredictability positively with a “can do” attitude.  
  • Educated to GCSE level in English and Maths and competent with basic IT packages
