Location: UTC Plymouth, Park Avenue, Devonport, Plymouth, PL1 4RL

FTE Salary Range: MPS-UPS, £28,000 - £43,685 per annum

Contract Type: Fixed Term until 31st August 2023, full time. For this role we are open to discussing the possibility of reduced hours, job share, compressed hours, or staggered hours. About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing school that specialises in a STEAM based curriculum. The purpose of this role is to support the drive for school improvement with a particular focus on Quality of Education in English and coaching of ECTs. This role will involve some teaching.   This role will be supported through collaboration with other secondary schools with a focus on school improvement.

You will be directed by the Deputy Head (Teaching and Learning) and will have responsibility for the quality of support for ECTs.

You will conduct regular, focused learning walks coupled with impact coaching to ensure rapid improvement is made in our priority areas and consistency is established.

English:  You will drive the improvement of standards through focusing on QA of SOW, standards of assessment and reading.

Literacy:  You will support the improvement of Reading through strategic oversight of Bedrock, working in conjunction with the English Team.

You are a creative, forward thinker who understands the vital necessity to provide young people with high aspirations and a clear pathway for life beyond the college.

This role involves understanding the needs of the students and adopting/developing an appropriate curriculum/interventions or pastoral programme in your area. You will need to be able to establish a safe, purposeful and stimulating environment for students, rooted in mutual respect and establish a framework for discipline with a range of strategies, using praise, sanctions and rewards consistently and fairly.  An interest in teaching A Level English Literature would be preferable.

UTC Plymouth is an educational college for 11-19 year olds specialising in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths. Our curriculum is delivered through a combination of industry standard workshop experiences, a focus on high achievement in core academic subjects and industry-led challenges with the aim of offering clear progression routes into employment, apprenticeships, higher education or further learning in work.
