Contract Type: Permanent, full time

Contract Hours: 32.5 per week, Monday to Friday

About the role

The Springfields Academy builds safe independent lives for autistic young people through support, understanding and enablement from the ages of 5-19.

The role of Autism + Complex Needs Teacher is an exciting new role in the Academy’s High Needs provision. The core purpose of the role is to develop and deliver a holistic academic, social communication and life skills curriculum for some of our most complex pupils with autism.

It is a unique opportunity for the successful candidate to create a developmental program that not only enables the pupil(s) to develop within our setting but includes family support work that builds on the ‘on site’ work. The aim being to maximise opportunities for development for our High Needs pupils using autism enablement structures and systems.

Part of the excitement of teaching at Springfields is the broad range of individuals that you will care for. Our young people with autism may have sensory needs, speech and language difficulties, or other conditions such as social, emotional, and mental health needs. A key aspect of working at Springfields is taking the time to get to know pupils and their individual needs, and given their complexity, being able to create a safe, stimulating and supportive learning environment is crucial.

About the successful candidate

The role requires the successful candidate to have an understanding/commitment to understanding the theories of autism and how they can be applied in practice to meet individual need; in addition to creativity, flexibility, resilience, and a commitment to meeting the needs of our pupils through innovative provision and pedagogy.

Experience of working with pupils with Complex Learning Needs is advantageous.

About the School

The Springfields Academy is a Reach South Academy for young people aged 5-19 with autism. We have 170 pupils attending our Calne site and 40 pupils at our Satellite provision in Salisbury. Our goal is to build safe independent lives for autistic young people through support, understanding and enablement.

The Springfields Academy is an academy over two sites in Calne and Salisbury. We aspire to build safe independent lives for autistic young people through support, understanding and enablement. Additionally, we hold the National Autistic Society Advanced specialist award and are recognised as an Ofsted good school.

We are an acknowledged centre of excellence for Autism; we are highly reflective in our practices, and are continually working to improve our provision and practices. We provide a personalised curriculum journey that enables leaners with a diagnosis of autism to develop skills in areas of need and to overcome their barriers to learning. The drive to build ‘safe Independent lives’ shapes this curriculum and everything else that we do. The Academy has a PAN of 210.

The Springfields Academy aims to be the leading school for autistic learners within the South West. We are based at a well-equipped and spacious site in Calne, North Wiltshire. We are Ofsted rated 'Good' (March 2022) and hold Advanced Accreditation with The National Autistic Society (June 2022). Over 95% of our current cohort have a diagnosis of Autism. All students have the potential to access a primary/secondary curriculum and we support them to do so.
