(Co1) Leader of Additional Needs 

Full Time Permanent position commencing 2019 


Co1 point “Leaders of” positions are offered a contract within a set 3-year cycle as co-ordinator. A new cycle commences in 2019. 

All co-ordinator positions must be advertised every 3 years within the school and incumbents are eligible for reappointment. The person appointed will have a permanent teaching position in the school and will involve a teaching load. 


Teacher Accreditation: 

Teachers who are appointed to a leadership position, whether new to the position or applying to be re-appointed for the contract period 2019 - 2021, should have begun, or will begin to make a commitment to complete the requirements of Accreditation To Work Teach and Lead, Category C, during this next triennium cycle.

Applicants should show a willingness to understand and participate fully in the life of the College. 


Role expectations: 

You will be required to: 

  • Support the mission, teachings and ethos of the Catholic Church’s work in schools. 
  • Acknowledge and accept that your work in schools is part of the mission of the Catholic Church
  • Uphold the mission, teachings and ethos of the Catholic Church in Catholic Education 
  • Avoid any influence on students that is not consistent with such mission, teachings or ethos 
  • Incorporation of ICT into pedagogy is desirable.

Applicants must: 

  • have additional needs background skills and experience with students
  • have experience with Student Personal Plans 
  • have Literacy and / or Numeracy background
  • have experience in coordinating and supervising staff in the implementing of Additional Needs programs 
  • be able to articulate an understanding of programs for students with Additional Needs including Tiers of Intervention
  • be able to facilitate parent meetings
  • hold a current NSW Working with Children Check 
  • have full registration with NESA 
  • address how they meet the requirements of the Position Description attached. 


The successful applicant will be a committed Christian who worships weekly in their local Christian community.

About McAuley Catholic College, Grafton

McAuley Catholic College is a co-educational Catholic secondary school for Year 7- Year 12. Located in Grafton in Northern New South Wales, the college has a close relationship with the local parish. 

In 1990 the college was formed with the amalgamation of three local Catholic schools – St Mary’s College, Holy Spirit College and St Aloysius. Catholic faith and practices are important and central to the existence of the College.

Located on the outskirts of Grafton, the College campus offers excellent facilities for all subject areas including Science, Technology and Applied Studies as well as Performing and Visual Arts. In addition there are many opportunities for the students to excel in academic, cultural and sporting areas. All of these areas combined ensure that the College’s mission is lived out daily in the life of the school.

Curriculum

McAuley Catholic College students learn a Diocesan Religious Education curriculum based on and taught in accordance with the Board of Studies and Teaching and Educational Standards syllabuses for Secondary Education. The College encourages students to be confident, lifelong learners with technology being a critical component in 21st century learning. Students are required to use computer devices daily.

The College was founded on the traditions of the Mercy Sisters and Marist Brothers since the late 1800’s, catering for students in the Clarence Valley. McAuley Catholic College focuses on educating and empowering each person to live by Gospel values of deep knowledge and understanding of Jesus Christ as well as the Mercy values of compassions, respect, justice and excellence.
