Job overview

REQUIRED FOR JANUARY 2020 or sooner

1.0FTE Teacher of Maths- KS3 & KS4

Do you want to work in a school that is friendly, supportive and close-knit, but whose ambitions for our students are not limited by our size?

Are you excited by the opportunity to help a school move from being a Good one (widely praised in our 2017 Ofsted inspection), to one that is recognised as Outstanding in all areas?

If so, The Wensleydale School & Sixth Form is the school for you.

We are situated in the heart of the picturesque Yorkshire Dales, a spectacular place to live and work. While this means that we may be smaller than the average secondary, it does not mean that our desire to achieve excellence for our students is in any way diminished.

In fact, we punch above our weight in everything that we do.

2019, is a super-exciting year for us; not only have we launched our Combined Cadet Force (CCF), but we are also having a major focus on student and staff wellbeing.  In debating, we compete against leading independent schools in national finals. We are very proud of our successes on the sports field, taking home trophies from many of the local sporting competitions. Our enrichment activities and trips are the envy of other schools.

We are not just looking for an individual who can inspire in the classroom, but someone who can add to our strong sense of community by embracing the possibilities we offer.

If you are an exciting and dynamic teacher who will deliver lively, interesting Key Stage 3 & 4 lessons then we would like to hear from you.

In return, our desire for the very best for our students is mirrored by our desire to support our staff. We offer:

• A thorough induction and a 1:1 Senior Leadership Team (SLT) mentor in your first year

• Enhanced personal professional development

• A supportive and highly effective Senior Leadership Team

• Approachable and helpful colleagues

• Easy to use systems that enable the effective use of data to raise attainment

• A consequence-led behaviour system that builds restorative practice and positive relationships

Above all, the key reason staff stay at Wensleydale is our students. They are the key factor in making the school a welcoming and friendly learning environment, and they are committed to adhering and respecting the three key behaviours that shape the school’s mission and ethos: hardworking, positive and respectful.

Where our staff live and travel from is diverse: Leeds and the towns and cities of the North East are all commutable, and we border the Lake District, Lancashire, County Durham, and Yorkshire & Humber regions.

If you are interested, then please do come and visit the school before making an application. We hope that you will find it both enjoyable and inspiring.

A 'quick apply' application form is available on the TES portal or a full NYCC application form can be downloaded from our school website at http://www.wensleydale.n-yorks.sch.uk/join/vacancies/

Completed applications should be returned to Mrs N Geater, School Business Leader, at The Wensleydale School & Sixth Form, Richmond Road, Leyburn, North Yorkshire, DL8 5HY or emailed to admin@wensleydaleschool.net.

Values and Vision

Wensleydale is a school that is set on inspiring and motivating all students in their learning community to achieve success while treating all students as individuals that can value the school in their own unique ways. It is a school with an atmosphere of encouragement and tolerance, making sure all staff and pupils respect one another, regardless of their age, ability, race and background.

The school gained a specialism in science in 2006, in addition to gaining a Healthy Schools award. In 2008, the school’s new sixth form centre opened.

Ofsted

“This is a good and continuously improving school. Some aspects of this school’s work are outstanding, particularly the drive to engage all students, parents and carers, staff and governors in making further improvements. Overall, leadership and management are very effective, with senior leaders and managers very aware of the strengths and areas for future development. Those students with identified learning needs are also making good overall progress, with many gaining a number of vocationally orientated awards, alongside the more traditional accreditation of GCSE”
