To help us, we wish to appoint a 2nd in Charge of Science to work alongside the Head of Department to ensure all students achieve their full potential in Science.

The successful candidate should have a passion and ambition to develop as a teacher and be an integral member of a team who wish to raise the aspirations and achievements of our pupils. You should be able to demonstrate excellence in teaching and learning and an ability to engage and inspire students of all abilities.

The successful candidate will provide a supportive, stimulating environment and share the high expectations of achievement for all pupils. You must be a reflective practitioner and be committed to strong personal growth and continuing professional development.

Science Department Vision

Collaboration, communication and celebration is at the heart of all that we do. Every member of the department has the opportunity to observe and share best practice as well seek ongoing development and be respected.

Teachers have the highest expectations of pupils and aim to promote the love of science through science capital, creativity, celebration and creating a community feel. Teachers seek to engage learners, model pastoral and teaching excellence and promote independent practice to create successful, respectable and reflective learners that achieve excellent outcomes.

In the Science department, you will have the opportunity to:

  •  Work with teachers and technicians that are committed to the department vision and promoting the love of science amongst our learners
  • Share and develop best practice to set the highest standards for teaching and learning
  • Receive evidence-based CDP for ongoing professional development
  • Observe teaching with an open-door approach
  • Contribute to the Science department’s curriculum development
  • Openly communicate with all members of the department


As a middle leader at Bower Park Academy, you will have the opportunity to:
