Job overview

EdStart opened its first Independent Specialist School in South Manchester in September 2010, and now operates across multiple sites throughout the North West.

In September 2018, our new centre in Bury will be open to pupils. The new site is based in the centre of Bury which make it easily accessible to both pupils and staff. We require an Academic and Behaviour Mentor to join us from September 2018 who will be responsible for the learning and achievements of students, ensuring equality of opportunity for all.

Our primary function is Alternative Provision, serving the region’s schools and young people by developing a suitable environment and curriculum to match their varying needs.  Our pupils each have the opportunity to develop an individual learning plan with their mentor or teacher which they then follow throughout their time with Edstart.

Our DfE registered centres are all equipped with classrooms, ICT facilities, Smart and interactive white boards, and private one to one mentoring rooms.

Facilities for cooking and art are also features of our centres. As well as creating a suitable learning environment, our centres are pupil friendly with activities available to engage pupils during break times.

Ideally you will have:

· Experience of working in a secondary school as a Learning Mentor

· A proven track record of reaching children with social, emotional or physical barriers to learning and improving attendance

· Qualifications in counselling would be advantageous
