Support Staff Band 1

An exciting opportunity for an efficient, well organised administrator to join the team at Northampton Academy has become available.

As part of the Academy services team, you will provide high quality administrative support to the Academy across a range of tasks and duties.

The primary focus of the role will involve supporting the attendance team to ensure close monitoring of student attendance. You will also be a point of contact for staff and parents in relation to admissions enquiries. You will help support with all the administrative processes associated with admissions, including year 6 to 7 transition and also in-year admissions.

The successful applicant will have advanced skills in Excel, Word and Publication software and be willing to be trained on the school’s information management system (SIMS). Appropriate experience would be an asset. You will be a team player and not be afraid to support with general admin duties as they arise.

Northampton Academy is a transformational comprehensive and non-selective school of approximately 1500 students, serving a diverse community. We were proud to be judged 'good' by Ofsted in all areas in February 2016.  Our values, which underpin every decision we take, are RESPECT, DETERMINATION and AMBITION.  We have a comprehensive student character-building programme, which has been nationally recognised through the Character Kitemark.

Northampton Academy is part of United Learning, a unique group of independent and state schools working together to achieve the best in everyone. Our vision is to provide excellent education so that all young people are able to make a success of their lives and, if we are to realise this vision, we need to make sure we attract, develop and reward the key ingredient – you.

Northampton Academy is committed to equal opportunities and to the protection and safety of all students and adults. We expect all staff and volunteers to share these commitments.

The post will be subject to an enhanced DBS Disclosure.

Closing date: 12 noon on Tuesday 15th October 2019.

Northampton Academy is a transformational comprehensive and non-selective school, serving a diverse community. We were proud to be judged 'outstanding' by Ofsted in all areas in March 2023. Our values, which underpin every decision we take, are RESPECT, DETERMINATION, AMBITION, TOLERANCE and INTEGRITY. We have a comprehensive student character-building programme, which has been nationally recognised through the Character Quality Mark Plus that was awarded in November 2021.

The leadership of the academy is completely determined to create an environment in which teachers can get on with their core role: delivering excellent lessons.  To this end, the student behaviour system is clear and simple and easy to administer in lessons. If action is needed beyond these simple steps, the pastoral and senior teams take all the burden away from the teachers, conducting detentions, following up and dealing with parents on your behalf. Teachers at the academy speak of this as one of the major benefits of working here. In addition to this, teachers are trusted to be professionals through:

  • A genuine ‘flexi-working’ approach with at least one opportunity a week to come in late or leave early for every teaching member of staff
  • No unannounced observations
  • No lesson grading
  • 3 extra INSET days per year for joint team planning
  • A feedback and recognition policy that lets teachers decide the best feedback mechanism for their own classes, rather than having this prescribed centrally
