Job overview

Core subject KS1 to Post-16 freelance tutors for LAC and Young People with SEND required in Brighton and surrounding areas.

Please note, this is not an online only role.

About Us:

There are over 2 million vulnerable children in the UK and 1.6 million of these have no established, recognised form of education support to meet their needs.

Targeted Provision was created to ensure that young people who are not receiving the support they need from mainstream education, are catered for.

We take our child-centred approach and the wellbeing and professional development of our tutors very seriously; we understand that without great tutors, young people cannot receive the tuition they need.

The Role:

We require experienced educators to tutor looked after young people, and those with SEND in the Sussex region.

This tuition primarily covers the core subjects (English, Maths, and Science), from KS1 through to Post-16 education.

Tuition will normally take place in the home of the young person, with the carer or parent present at all times.

The number of hours per varies from 1 - 15 hours per week and per student, with no guaranteed minimum number of hours.

Requirements:

  • Professional Teaching Qualifications (QTS)
  • Minimum 3 years teaching experience
  • Experience working with young people in care, children in need and/or those with SEND is highly desirable.
  • Enhanced DBS (we can help obtain this at cost if needed)
  • Two professional references
  • It is strict requirement that you have the ability to work in a way that promotes the health, safety and wellbeing of children and young people

Benefits:

  • We understand you are trained professionals. By working with us you will have the freedom to use your own professional judgement and qualified practice for the delivery of your sessions
  • No one will have a right to control how your work is done and a new contract will be issued for any alternative service delivery
  • We offer the opportunity for flexible working and there will be no obligation placed upon you to accept work we offer you.
  • As a self-employed tutor you will maintain full control over your schedule and full ownership over how to best structure and deliver your sessions
  • The location of where your tuition will be carried out will ultimately be dictated by the needs of the young person - we do not control or decide this for you

Employment status:

  • This position involves tutoring in a self-employed capacity to provide short-term engagements as and when they arise
  • You will work through a contract for service
  • We do not offer any set amount of work nor expenses coverage
  • You will not be covered by our insurance. You will hold your own insurance as befits your own working practices.

We look forward to receiving your CV, outlining your relevant skills and experience that can help make a difference.

Due to the number of applications we receive, we are unable to respond to every applicant. We aim to respond to all successful applicants within two weeks.

We are keen to hear from candidates from all backgrounds. The over 2 million vulnerable children in the UK are disproportionately constituted of the BAME and LGTBQIA+ communities, as well as by people who identify as working class or have done so in the past, people with disabilities, refugees and migrants, and people living with mental health conditions. It is integral to our mission of raising the standard of support for the UK's vulnerable learners that we engage tutors from all backgrounds who share/relate to the experiences of our students.

Interviews are being scheduled on a rolling basis.
