Due to open in September 2015, The Derby Manufacturing UTC will provide innovative, dynamic, and empowering education and training for young people who have an interest and aptitude for engineering and technological based careers.  With a focus on engineering and emerging technologies, our aim is to develop young people who are skilled, professional and enterprising - who can make a significant contribution to reinvigorating Engineering and Science in Derby, Derbyshire and the East Midlands.

The sponsors and partners of the Derby Manufacturing UTC believe that the development of this new UTC will have a positive impact on the lives of learners, our communities, and the engineering and emerging technology based industries across Derby, Derbyshire and the East Midlands. The UTC will make a significant contribution to the raising of awareness of the sustainability issues affecting this country and throughout the world through its partnerships with engineering and emerging technologies industries in the conurbation. In addition the UTC will be a catalyst for supporting the raising of standards in surrounding schools, at all levels, through the sharing of outstanding practice.

The UTC will bring together the established skills of the partner organisations to collectively drive forward an increase in the available opportunities for young people in the city.  The UTC will use innovative and technologically advanced methods of teaching and learning, will increase participation on learning programmes with essential elements of vocational and work based learning, will inspire young people to achieve above their expectations and will drive forward an increase in the skill set of the workforce within the Derby area.  It will provide opportunities for learners to access high quality contextualised learning programmes, enhanced by close links, with employers and stakeholders across the wider Derbyshire area. The UTC will transform the educational opportunities and outcomes for young people from across the region by providing a challenging and innovative work-related curriculum.

With a distinctive focus on developing multidisciplinary skills through both academic and practical experiences, the UTC will improve youth employability in engineering and emerging technologies in Derby, Derbyshire and the East Midlands.
