Job overview

We are looking for an exceptional and organised administrator with excellent interpersonal skills to play a key role supporting all aspects of admissions at Emanuel School.

As Admissions Officer you will support the promotion of the school to potential new pupils and their families, participating in a fair and thorough pupil selection process, and ensuring that the school community is consistently and positively presented in person and online.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Building warm relationships with schools in the community to ensure a positive impression of the school is consistently delivered
  • Providing positive advice and support to parents and families on admissions, scholarship and bursary processes on the phone, in writing, during tours and at open events
  • Ensuring data is gathered and updated appropriately for all prospective pupils
  • Processing applications to the school at all entry points
  • Participating in a range of high-profile admissions events to enhance the school’s reputation in the community
  • Supporting the marketing functions of the school via input to innovative social media initiatives and printed marketing materials

To be considered for this role you will need experience in an administrative role where you have developed and sustained positive working relationships. The ability to build rapport with people, in a warm and friendly manner, is therefore essential.

You will also need experience of and enthusiasm for the use of digital technologies in communications as well as experience of using organisation and management systems.

If you believe you have the skills and experience to further develop and enhance the way that we engage with local families and welcome new pupils to our school, we would be delighted to hear from you.

You will be joining the school at an exciting time. Our progression in academic results, sporting achievements and outreach activities over recent years is something we are very proud of.

Working at Emanuel

There is a genuine buzz at the school. Colleagues enjoy their work and, like the pupils, are ambitious for the school.

Everyone works hard here, and anyone joining the school should expect to do so. There’s a strong sense of community and source of friendship. From the briefing to all staff, to the half termly staff meetings, termly consultative group meetings and a common room committee, there’s a dialogue about the school’s aims.

We aim to look after our staff too. We have an appraisal scheme with a focus on the employee’s professional development; we sponsor postgraduate courses and a range of training opportunities; we offer a healthcare plan via Simply Health that includes counselling and medical support; and we’re committed to supporting staff wellbeing. On a more practical level, all staff benefit from good pension provision and free lunches.

About Emanuel School

“The school whole-heartedly fulfils its aims to inspire endeavour, confidence and ambition in its pupils.”

ISI Inspection Report April 2023

Welcome to Emanuel. We are a fully co-ed school of over 1000 pupils, aged 10-18, with over 200 teaching and support staff colleagues.

We are an ambitious community. This summer, 87% of grades at GCSE were awarded 9-7, which is a lift of 37% across recent years. Our A Level A*-A percentage is 53%. This is 20% higher than in 2018 and the school is now recognised as one of the best for academic outcomes in the country. The recent ISI Inspection report noted that: “Pupils make excellent progress across the range of subjects and significant value is added to their academic outcomes.”

We are committed to developing all our major sports and value pupil participation as well as team and individual achievement. The school’s critical build plan will see a significant investment in our on and off-site sports facilities across the next 3-4 years. The same site plan will support the outstanding creative and performing arts teaching at the school, as the school’s plans for a large specialist science teaching block will also allow us to improve our facilities for music and drama, both areas of traditional strength. We were delighted that these areas were recognised in last year’s Independent School of the Year Awards when we won the award for our performing arts.

Beyond the classroom, we have a thriving partnerships programme, helping to develop our pupils at all ages as they participate in this work, and benefiting the local community, with over 1000 primary school children coming to use our site and work with our pupils each month. In 2021 we won the Independent School of the Year Award for our community outreach work.

At the heart of our school is a positive and welcoming culture. We are fortunate to have a committed and talented group of colleagues, people who recognise the importance of everyone at the school having a varied working life, a sense of personal growth and shared enjoyment. We wish you the best of luck with your application.
