Job overview

St Helena Island, South Atlantic

2 years FTC

A sub-tropical island of spectacular and beautiful landscapes in the South Atlantic with a warm and friendly population of 4,500, St Helena is a self-governing overseas territory of the UK. Following the opening of its international airport in October 2017, St Helena is better placed to develop both economically and socially.

There are four schools on the Island; one secondary and three primaries. The curriculum broadly models the English education system.

As an experienced teacher able to teach GCSE and A level English you must have a track record of delivery and have successfully taught English in at least one Secondary School to GCSE and A level. Inspiring and motivating learners to achieve, you can contribute to the professional development of other teachers.

Co-ordinating and developing English at our Secondary School under the direction of the Head of English, including the schemes of work for key stage 3, 4 and 5, you must monitor and assess student performance using the tracking systems currently in place.

Developing courses for both school students and for Further Education students, you will contribute to the teaching of English within Lifelong Learning wherever possible.

Holding a recognised UK teaching qualification you are qualified to degree level or equivalent. Having knowledge of the range of GCSE and A level courses available for English and of the Secondary Curriculum within the UK, relevant to English, you have diplomacy, sensitivity and excellent communication skills including the use of ICT. You will have experience of offering professional development and training to other staff.

We offer an extensive benefits package with 30 days leave pa, fare paid travel, freight, pension contribution and relocation allowance (see overseas vacancy information). An application form can be found at www.sthelenacareers.co.uk where further information can also be found, or you may contact Kedell Worboys on 0203 818 7610 or email: shgukrep@sthelenagov.com.

Applications must be sent to recruitment@sainthelena.gov.sh and received by 03 October 2019. Interviews will be held in London.

Due to the potential for high numbers of applications, if you have not heard from us within 2 weeks of the closing date you should assume you have not been short listed.  We would like to thank you for your interest in working for the St Helena Government.
