2 Advanced Teaching Assistants

To assist the Head of Inclusion with tasks required for the effective delivery of SEN provision and differentiated learning within the Inclusive Learning Group. One ATA will specialise in Literacy Intervention and the other in Numeracy Intervention. We are looking for confidence, strong inter-personal and organisational skills and the ability to work successfully with young people.  

These are established posts starting 29/04/2019.

33 hours per week, term time only, Band 5. 

Bottom of band 5 is currently £8.90 per hour which is £13,072 per annum.

This is changing to £9.55 per hour from 1 April which will be £14,026 per annum.

Top of Band 5 is £9.50 per hour changing to £9.94 per hour.

Malton School is a high achieving and over-subscribed 11 to 18 school situated between York and the North York Moors National Park. This is an exciting time as the school is growing and moving from strength to strength.

The school has an iPad for Learning scheme. Every member of staff has an iPad as well as a laptop. All students have an iPad.

Malton School is a mixed, non-selective, non-denominational secondary comprehensive with a sixth form, situated in North Yorkshire. There are 1059 students aged 11-18 and 263 of these are in the sixth form, which has had the highest average attainment for non-selective schools in North Yorkshire since 2006. There is a Friends organisation, The Maltonians, for former students of the school.

The school is in the process of joining the Pathfinder Multi Academy Trust and Teaching School Hub and we are also a member of the Red Kite Teaching School Alliance. Staff development programmes and opportunities are shared within the MAT and the alliance, including leadership development and support for early career teachers.

Values and vision

Malton School aims to provide a learning environment which is safe and secure, so that every individual feels able to take risks in the pursuit of new knowledge and skills. The secondary school provides varied, engaging and stimulating teaching and learning in every class, supported by a range of extra-curricular opportunities and positive staff/student relationships, so that every individual can find a way to shine and build self-esteem. It also aims to be supportive and challenging, so that every individual feels that they are being continuously stretched to achieve to the best of their ability.

Malton School opened a new Science block with four new laboratories in 2004 on becoming a specialist Science School, resulting in a total of eight laboratories and associated preparation rooms. The Food Technology rooms were totally re-furbished in 2011. In February 2011 Archbishop Sentamu opened a community sports centre and full-sized, floodlit, astroturf pitch on the school site, providing Malton School with the best P.E. facilities in the area. A dance and drama studio was opened in September 2013. Fully refurbished DT rooms opened in September 2016. A new 4 classroom Humanities block was opened in September 2021. The school is looking forward to an improved library and set of music facilities in September 2024.

"This is an inclusive school which has very high ambition for its pupils. Pupils study a broad range of subjects and are taught well-planned lessons. The school makes good use of innovative technology to ensure that all pupils can access learning. Most pupils make good progress as they work through the school’s curriculum. 

Pupils are polite, respectful and happy. Pupils have good relationships with staff and feel safe at the school. Pupils learn how to keep themselves safe online. 

Pupils benefit from many personal development activities. These include The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, the European Space Agency Astro Pi Challenge and coding. The school ensures that pupils experience a wide range of trips and visits that enrich the curriculum. For example, pupils have opportunities to visit York to learn about urban land use change. They also visit London to learn about economics and visit various battlefields to learn about historical conflicts. 

Sixth-form students enjoy an exceptional educational experience. They are taught by highly knowledgeable teachers and receive an exceptional array of personal development experiences".
