Job Title: Animal Care Instructor
Location: Trent Acres, Kings Bromley, DE13 7HR
Salary: £26,375.00 per annum
Hours: 40 hours per week; Monday to Friday, 8am - 4pm
Contract: Permanent, Term Time Only

About the role:
To continue the growth and development of Options Trent Acres School and lead on the delivery of providing a warm, safe and secure environment in which all learners are able to thrive. To work closely with the SLT and colleagues to ensure the school is compliant with statutory regulations taking a leading role in teaching Animal Care.
You will be required to plan, prepare and deliver practical and theory Animal Care lessons and learning programmes based on subject and accreditation requirements and the individual needs of pupils.
Job Summary:
- To plan, organise and manage practical and theory animal care lessons for pupils.
- To be an inspiring instructor and develop the provision for active learning
- To provide personal support to enable pupils to reach their potential both academically and emotionally
- To assist the staff team in supporting pupils with their behaviour
- To support elsewhere in the school, including on offsite activities when not instructing animal care lessons.
- To share the school’s values and ethos to create a highly personalised curriculum to meet individuals needs in an environment that is nurturing and holistic.
Responsibilities
- Ensure efficient and effective use of teaching materials and resources and the proper care and maintenance of equipment and the teaching environment.
- Through training, personal and professional development maintain a sound understanding of the needs of pupils at Trent Acres.
- Comply with professional codes of practice and standards
- Comply with health and safety and other appropriate statutory requirements to ensure the health, safety and well-being of self and pupils
- To have an understanding of appropriate vocational qualifications and ensure pupils are working towards these in key stage 4 and key stage 5.
- Deliver enrichment and enhancement activities.
- Liaise with the Deputy Head Teacher and the Senior Leadership team to communicate subject effectiveness and how this impacts the school.
- To understand and support the development of appropriate sequences of learning that relate to the needs of learners in each pathway.
- To model professional standards at all times in line with Professional Standards for Teachers.

Options Trent Acres is an outstanding independent specialist school; providing 141 places for pupils age 5-19.
The school operates across two sites in Staffordshire providing academic and vocational opportunities in another both a rural, 12-acre site and a newly built college setting.
The school is purpose built, modern and welcoming with a range of specialist learning areas including an indoor and outdoor riding school and outdoor gymnasium. Pupils also have the opportunity to work with our horses, donkeys, goats, alpaca and chickens. Learning outside of the classroom is a fundamental part of life at Trent Acres. Trent Acres provides a wide ranging curriculum which is tailored to meet the needs of each individual pupil. Pupils are able to work to nationally recognised educational awards in a broad range of subjects. Pupils are able to access Animal Husbandry using our onsite facilities, Horticulture and outdoor activities education. Where appropriate we seek to source work experience placements for pupils. The service also seeks to build links with local schools and colleges which enable us to provide further education opportunities for our pupils.
Many of the young people who come to Options Trent Acres have either experience a fragmented education or have not attended School/ College for a long period of time. Many of our students have a Statement of Special Educational Needs/Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP) which will detail and identify their needs.
