Job overview

Are you passionate about teaching and animals? If the answer is yes, this is a fantastic opportunity for you!

The Roseland Community Farm is a unique and fantastic resource which plays a key part in the daily life of our school.

A Teaching Practitioner is required to work on our small school farm preparing resources for practical lessons that meet both the health and safety standards and requirements of the classes involved. With Key Stage 3 students, you will grow produce in our poly-tunnel and in our allotments and develop learning opportunities for these students to instil a love of animals, food and farming. The Key Stage 3 curriculum is being developed and the post-holder will be key to curriculum improvements and farm developments. You will continue the hands-on approach to food and plant production and the caring of animals in a small-holding environment.

A significant and very important part of this role is to deliver, to small classes, the BTec Level 2 qualification in Animal Care to Year 10 and Year 11 students.

The position will involve lifting and manual handling of animals, goods and equipment. Cleaning out of animal pens and general cleaning around the farm is also required. Much of the work is outside and will need to be carried out in all weathers. A flexible approach is necessary both with regards to duties and working hours with holiday cover and overtime available, by prior agreement, for weekends and school holidays to cover for the Farm Technician(s).

Teaching Practitioners follow the DfE Teacher Standards and are employed under the Trust’s terms and conditions, which broadly follow the DfE School Teachers’ Pay & Conditions document.

In return we will offer you:

  • A unique opportunity to be a key member of staff in a forward-looking, successful school on a rural site on the beautiful Roseland Peninsula in Cornwall;
  • A happy and supportive working environment with high expectations and standards of staff and students;
  • Access to high-quality Continuous Professional Development within the Multi Academy Trust and offered through the Roseland Academy’s Teaching School Hub, OneCornwall, network;
  • Competitive salaries, based on skills and experience;
  • Teacher’s pension scheme;
  • School holidays;
  • Discounted membership in Trust Sports Hubs (Falmouth & Newquay);
  • Free parking facilities;
  • Employer’s Eyecare Scheme (Specsavers);
  • Employee Assistant Programme (EAP);
  • TES media access (magazine, podcast and videos).

If the challenges of working in a highly successful school appeals to you, then we would like to hear from you. Visits to the Roseland Academy are warmly welcomed and encouraged.

Potential candidates are encouraged to contact The Roseland Academy with any questions. To arrange a visit or for further details contact Miss Emily Pye via epye@theroseland.co.uk

Safeguarding Statement:

The Roseland Academy, part of The Roseland Multi Academy Trust, is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. Everyone who comes into contact with children and their families and carers has a role to play in safeguarding children. In order to fulfil this responsibility effectively, all professionals should make sure their approach is child-centred. This means that they should consider, at all times, what is in the best interests of the child.

Our Headteachers and Trustees act reasonably in making decisions about the suitability of the prospective employee based on checks and evidence, including Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks, barred list checks and prohibition checks, together with references and interview information. The level of DBS certificate required, and whether a check for any prohibition, direction, sanction, or restriction is required, will depend on the role that is being offered and duties involved. As the majority of staff will be engaging in regulated activity, an enhanced DBS certificate which includes barred list information, will be required.

Please note, all shortlisted candidates will undergo online searches as part of the recruitment process.
