Job overview

What is the future of education? How should schools prepare pupils for the challenges they will face as enlightened 21st century citizens? How can Academies develop a curriculum that speaks to the head, hand and heart?”

RSA Academies supports seven schools educating over 4,500 students aged 3 to 19 across the West Midlands. Together with its partner, the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (RSA), RSA Academies has begun to develop a reputation as a respected and innovative academy partner, with a distinctive educational offer aligned with the RSA’s Power to Create strategy. Over the next five years, RSA Academies intends to strengthen academic excellence in all its schools, help shape practice in other schools, and influence education policy nationally.

RSA Academies seeks a new Chair to provide inclusive leadership to RSA Academies and its Board of Trustees, ensuring maximum impact for all students and staff in the RSA family and beyond. The Chair will be responsible for the highest standards of governance for the charity, facilitating collective ownership while providing support and constructive challenge to its Executive leadership. This is an exciting opportunity to work with the Chief Executive and Academy Principals, key stakeholders and the RSA, to deliver an ambitious education agenda, developing RSA Academies into a renowned academy partner.

The appointee will possess a record of success and achievement as an organisational leader, and deep knowledge of the education sector gained in either an operational or governance capacity. He or she will offer existing charity governance experience and the ability to forge fruitful collaborative relationships with all stakeholders at RSA Academies, the RSA and wider stakeholders. Candidates will offer excellent interpersonal, financial and communication skills, and the charisma to inspire a complex educational organisation on the cusp of significant growth and further development. The appointment is for three years from 1 September 2018.
