Leadership for a better world

About the Employer

Harrow Bangkok is the original Harrow International School in Asia and is thriving, with almost 1,600 students from over 42 different nationalities on its green 35-acre site in north Bangkok, Thailand. It is a co-educational day and boarding school and is part of a family of schools comprising Harrow School in London (The Hill), John Lyon School (London), and other Harrow international schools in Beijing, Hong Kong and Shanghai. As is the Harrow tradition, we specialise in high quality boarding for students, from Year 5 onwards; 20% of our Upper School students board.

The Curriculum

Supported by outstanding staff and accommodated in exceptional facilities, Early Years, Pre Prep and Prep pupils are taught an innovative and progressive curriculum, incorporating the best educational practice of England with global influences. Older students study for IGCSE and A Level examinations with significant enrichment opportunities. Throughout the School the development of the students’ transferable learner skills and leadership attributes is prioritised. Our students excel academically and go on to top global universities and adult lives contributing positively as ‘leaders for a better world’.

Organisation of the School

Harrow Bangkok is organised into two sections: Lower School, which comprises the Early Years Centre (from Little Lions (toddlers) to Reception) and Pre Prep (Infants and Juniors – Years 1 to 5) and the Upper School which incorporates the Preparatory Phase (Years 6 to 8), Shell, Remove and Fifth (SR5 - Years 9 to 11) and the Sixth Form (Years 12 and 13). Students range in age from 18 months in Little Lions to 18 years in Year 13. Each section has its own Head of School, who is supported by management teams, class teachers/tutors and specialist staff. Each Head of School is responsible to the Head Master, whilst retaining considerable autonomy

The School ethos

All that is done in the School reflects its motto, ‘Leadership for a better world’. Whether within lessons, or the diverse ‘Leadership in Action’ (LiA) enrichment programmes on offer, we focus on developing in our students the attributes and desires that will make a positive difference to the communities that they encounter, now and in the future. The attributes of leadership; community, compassion, collaboration, creativity, justice and determination, form the core of the School’s philosophy.

Campus facilities

The state-of-the-art facilities include four boarding houses, specialist Science, Creative Arts, Sixth Form and Early Years buildings, a gymnastics hall, double air-conditioned sports hall, extensive grass fields, a saline swimming pool, Harrow lake, covered outdoor multi sports barn, climbing wall, and flood-lit tennis courts. Staff accommodation for approximately a third of the staff and the Head Master’s residence is located on site.

HBuild: Our vision for the future

The School is at an exciting phase of its journey: an extensive site redevelopment programme from 2014 to 18, ‘HBuild’, is resulting in the commissioning of new facilities and the expansion of existing buildings. By summer 2017 the new Sixth Form ‘Rayleigh’ Centre, two new boarding houses ‘West Acre and The Grove’, much improved sports facilities, the Lower School ‘Pullman’ Library, the Creative Arts Centre and our expanded Early Years Centre and dining/cafe amenities will have been completed within HBuild. The upgrading of the Senior School is to follow. The project ensures that Harrow Bangkok has the high quality resources needed to deliver an education fit for the 21st Century.
