Belmont School is an independent day, flexi and weekly boarding school for boys and girls aged 3 to 16.  Situated close to the town of Dorking in the Surrey Hills, Belmont enjoys a 65-acre rural site enabling pupils to enjoy a vibrant, creative and wholesome school environment.  

The School comprises the Early Years (Pre-Reception and Reception), Prep School (Years 1 to 6) and Senior School (Year 7 upwards).  Classes rarely exceed 16 pupils in the Prep School and 20 in the Senior School.  The school day runs from 8.00am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday with weekly or flexible boarding available from Sunday evening to Friday evening.

We are seeking an Art & Design Technician who will be responsible for providing assistance to the Art Department.  The successful candidate will be required to work from 8.00am to 4.45pm, with 45 minutes lunch break. The hours to be worked are term time only plus 1 induction day, 4 annual Inset days and 10 further days to be working during the school holidays by arrangement. Training will be provided where necessary but the successful candidate is likely to have the skills necessary to support and to work in conjunction with the Head of Department to meet the responsibilities below:

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY AND KEY TASKS

• Maintain, store and prepare resources to support lessons, workshops and demonstrations undertaken by the department.

• Assist in the preparation of the annual department budget bid, maintaining records of spending throughout the year in conjunction with the Head of Art and Design. Use of Edexcel spreadsheets.

• Audit, source, research costs and request equipment, materials and products to maintain stock levels.

• Ensure and promote the maintenance of a healthy and safe working environment through contributing to health and safety procedures, information and resources in conjunction with the Head of Art and Design. 

• Engage in the safe treatment and disposal of used materials including hazardous substances.

• Attend department and whole-school meetings as required, courses and reading publications as required.

• Display a rotation of artwork around the school. 

• Assist in Art & Design lessons as required during practical sessions, including support with individual pupils.

• Contribute to the School’s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) and populate resources and maintain online year group galleries.

• Contribute to the extra-curricular life of the department, including practical assistance in contributing to workshop events, exhibitions, stage design and set painting etc.

• Undertake other mutual tasks (within reason) as delegated by the Head of Art & Design.

SALARY

• £20,457 full time (5 days per week) or part time (4 days per week) pro rata.   

• Free meals, refreshments and free parking are also available on site.

• Working arrangements may be flexible.

• Proof of the candidate’s identity and suitability to work in the UK will be required in hard copy on the day of interview.
