Job overview

Located 30 traffic-free minutes away from the centre of Newcastle, James Calvert Spence College is a 9-19 through school, catering for students from Year 5 to Year 13.  We are situated in one of the most beautiful areas of the UK.  Amble is a quiet, traffic free 25 mile drive from North Tyneside, and is an upcoming coastal town with multiple building developments providing relatively affordable housing.

Staff commute from as far afield as Sunderland and Gateshead, with many living in Newcastle and North Tyneside – car sharing is common, so transport isn’t usually an issue.

We require a teacher of Art and Textiles to join our federation for one year and teach from Year 7 through to Year 13.

The pupils and staff are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic individual who wants to be part of a team to drive learning forward. This is an excellent opportunity for an outstanding teacher of art to work within a motivated and experienced team of specialists.

Art, within the Art & Design directorate, is one of the most popular and successful areas of study at JCSC.  GCSE outcomes are consistently amongst the best in the school, and outperform national averages on a regular basis.  A key feature of this role will be to help further develop the quality of teaching and learning within the department, to assist in ensuring a smooth transition to the new specification GCSE and A-Levels, and to contribute to the ongoing success of this key area of the curriculum.

This is an exciting time to join us as we continue our journey towards excellence.  Staff and governors are fully committed to promoting equal opportunity and an outstanding educational experience for all students.

We would welcome applications from NQT’s and experienced teachers.

You will:

• Be a strong classroom practitioner, keen to develop your own skills further

• Be a positive role model

• Have high expectations of yourself and others

• Be passionate about improving the life chances of our students

We can offer you:

• Excellent opportunities for professional development

• A well-resourced curriculum

• Hardworking and well-behaved pupils who are willing to learn

• A friendly and supportive working environment with a dedicated staff team

Should you wish to informally discuss these positions further or would like to visit the college during our half term break, please contact Rachael Brown rbrown01@jcsc.co.uk to arrange.
