Job overview

Hampton Court House is a fast-growing co-educational independent school situated in beautiful riverside parkland between Richmond and Hampton in southwest London.

Hampton Court House has 240 pupils from Nursery through to Year 13. Our Sixth Form opened in September 2015.

The art department at Hampton Court House is a small but thriving department and many of our students go on to study the Arts at A level and beyond. We have four art studios and hold termly exhibitions; have a rich extra-curricular programme and participate regularly in local and national competitions.

We seek a motivated and energetic artist to teach our pupils to GCSE and A level. In the Middle and Upper Years and Sixth Form (Years 5 – 13) our students experience a broad and challenging artistic curriculum involving a range of art practice and theory. In this two day a week post you will be planning and delivering a lively and engaging series of classes for a range of Middle and Upper Years students. A knowledge of sculpture and 3d design would be advantageous.

We are looking for a well-qualified and preferably experienced teacher of GCSE and A level students who will be able to inspire enthusiasm in our pupils and help to promote the high cultural and academic ethos of the School.

If you would like to discuss informally further details of the post, please contact Eve Blackwood, by email eb@hchnet.co.uk.

Nestled in Bushy Park, Richmond-upon-Thames, Hampton Court House is an independent co-educational day school for ages 2 – 18, educating Early Years children in our Pre-Prep School & Nursery, The Little Courtiers, to students in Year 13.

The majority of our pupils elect to stay on to complete their full education with us, enjoying great success in their GCSEs and A Levels: in 2023, 40% of A Level grades were awarded A*/A, resulting in a 100% Oxbridge and Russell Group application success rate. Our GCSE results were equally strong, with 70% of all GCSE grades being awarded A*/A. Hampton Court House was in 2022 ranked in the top 50 independent schools nationwide (The Telegraph) and in the top 10 co-educational independent schools in London (School Owl, 2023).

Our programmes offer an extraordinary education. From the Forest School in Early Years and the award-winning Institut francais LabelFrancÉducation accredited French bilingual programme, to the Nebula Future Researcher’s Programme © in the Sixth Form, Hampton Court House pupils get a head start every step of the way.

We lay the foundations of a lifelong love of learning, and it is important to us that children enjoy being here and look forward to coming to school. In keeping with our ethos, we believe that children need some guided freedom in order to develop their independence and confidence to use their voice. Our non-uniform parkland campus environment, in which staff and pupils alike are addressed on a first-name basis, cultivates an energy where pupils grow in confidence and find themselves.

The school is located close to Hampton Court station, which is 35 minutes from Waterloo and 20 minutes from Wimbledon by train. There are also frequent buses to and from Kingston, Hampton, Teddington and Twickenham, or for staff who drive, there is on-site parking.
