South Hampstead High School are seeking to appoint a qualified artist, with excellent technical skills to assist in the smooth running of the Art Department. 

Supporting teachers and pupils to optimise teaching and learning, the Art Technician will assist with the supervision of practical tasks, prepare and maintain equipment and materials in accordance with health and safety standards and demonstrate the proper use and care of equipment and machinery.

The role is as rich as the range of activities that take place in this busy department, as the technician is often called upon to assist in the production of complex and challenging work. Key attributes of adaptability, problem solving and sensitivity to the artistic aspirations of young people are key, as is the ability to make a positive contribution to the team.

Art at South Hampstead High School

The Department is enviably resourced, consisting of four studios with specialist facilities for printmaking, studio photography, sculpture and ceramics. There is also a darkroom, Art library, Apple Mac computer suite and seminar room. Pupils are introduced to a wide range of specialist techniques and encouraged to explore whichever media are required to realise their ideas. The Department embraces all aspects of Art and Design across a broad range of technical processes, both contemporary and traditional. 

Due to the extensive facilities on offer, the Art Technician is expected to become conversant with a broad range of specialist Art techniques, demonstrating confident technical instruction of specialist equipment. The role is highly respected by pupils and staff.
