Job overview
Fixed term to cover maternity leave - 0.7 contract
We are looking for an enthusiastic, well-qualified teacher to work within the successful subject area of Art/Textiles. We would ideally like to recruit a colleague who has experience of teaching at KS4 and 5.
Ringwood School is a large thriving oversubscribed 11-18 Comprehensive School situated in beautiful surroundings close to the New Forest and the Hampshire / Dorset coastline. We recognise the importance of creating a dynamic, innovative learning environment to support young people with their learning.
Students at Ringwood are offered the opportunities to study a range of Art disciplines; from Art and Textiles at Key Stage 3, to Art, Textiles and Photography at Key Stage 4 and 5. We believe passionately in the transformative potential of our subjects and would hope to appoint a colleague able to teach a range of art disciplines, and be open to learning more.
The Art team is friendly, mutually supportive and works together and with other teams across the school to produce an ethos and atmosphere which is conducive to learning. We recognise the importance of learning from each other to include sharing best practice both within and between schools.
The Art department consists of 6 rooms, including one specialist room dedicated to the teaching of photography; alongside a darkroom and studio. We are supported by a department technician 3 days a week and are developing new ways of engaging with the wider community. We are a well-resourced and fully supported department within the school. Art is valued by all members of the school community and we are looking to celebrate the intrinsic value of our subject even further going forward; the department has worked with a large number of partner schools in developing Art and Photography competitions and initiatives in recent years; any new colleague would play a role in sustaining and growing this part of our work. We have also recently developed links with creative industry professionals known as our Creative Conversations; these can be viewed on the schools YouTube channel, and are illustrative of our belief in study of Art in its broadest sense.
Our results at A-Level over time are good and our GCSE results are often excellent. We aspire to continue with these excellent results as a department and work closely with the team to ensure that students are always making good progress.
Closing date: 9am, 30 November 2024.
Interview: 12 December 2024.
The successful candidate will have to meet the requirements of the person specification and will be required to have an enhanced DBS check. Ringwood School is committed to safeguarding students. We welcome applications regardless of age, gender, ethnicity or religion. Only applications submitted on the school application form will be considered.

About Ringwood School
Ringwood School is an 11 –18, heavily oversubscribed, popular comprehensive school set in the market town of Ringwood in Hampshire. We are a large and vibrant secondary school of 1550 students and just over 200 staff. The school became an Academy in April 2011 and gained National Teaching School status in July 2011. As a Teaching School we take a very active part in teacher training and undertake outreach work to support other schools locally. Our last Ofsted inspection was March 2017 and we are currently an Ofsted ‘good’ school.
The historic market town of Ringwood is a lively community situated close to the New Forest National Park; the Dorset World Heritage Coastline and the beaches surrounding Bournemouth. Our students come from Ringwood (we are the only secondary school in the town), from East Dorset and from the surrounding villages of the New Forest.
We welcome children of all abilities, interests and aptitudes and provide a high quality educational experience which reflects our commitment to the very best education has to offer. We combine traditional values with a creative, innovative curriculum designed to prepare young people for a rapidly changing world. We are constantly striving to achieve the highest possible standards in all aspects of our work. We believe that young people should enjoy their school days in a safe, caring and intellectually stimulating environment, gaining a real sense of achievement and actively participating in the community life of the school.
